Spring Reset: Supporting Your Body (and Garden) This Season

As the frost melts away and the days stretch longer, spring invites us to step back outside—into our gardens, yards, and fresh routines. While this season brings excitement and renewal, it can also place new and unfamiliar demands on your body.

Hours spent raking, digging, lifting soil, or pruning can quickly lead to tight shoulders, sore backs, and overworked hands. Just like easing your plants into the growing season, your body benefits from a little preparation and care too.

Common Spring Strains
Early-season yard work often leads to:
- Low back tension from bending and lifting
- Shoulder and neck tightness from raking or pruning
- Wrist and forearm strain from repetitive movements
- Hip stiffness after winter inactivity

How Massage Therapy Helps
Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) can support your transition into a more active season by:
- Reducing muscle tension and soreness
- Improving mobility and flexibility
- Supporting recovery from repetitive strain
- Helping prevent injuries before they start

Think of it as maintenance for your body—just like turning soil or fertilizing your garden.

Simple Tips for Gardening Without the Aches
- Warm up with light movement before starting
- Switch tasks often to avoid overuse
- Use proper lifting techniques (bend at the knees, not the back)
- Take short breaks to stretch and hydrate

Make Self-Care Part of Your Spring Routine
If your body is already feeling the effects of yard work—or you want to stay ahead of it—massage therapy can make a noticeable difference in how you move and feel.

Evening treatments are available to fit into your busy spring schedule, and direct billing to most insurance companies is provided for your convenience.

Step into spring feeling loose, supported, and ready to enjoy the season—both in your garden and in your body.

-Welcome Back: A New Chapter for Nissa Cochran
Registered Massage Therapy:
I’m excited to share that Nissa Cochran Registered Massage Therapy is reopening — with a renewed focus, deeper intention, and a clear commitment to helping people restore how their bodies are meant to move, feel, and function. This next chapter of my practice is centred on injury treatment and rehabilitation, primarily using Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT) alongside registered massage therapy.

-Why Injury Treatment Is Never Just About the Injury:
Pain is rarely random. When the body experiences injury, stress, or compensation over time, it adapts. Muscles take over jobs they weren’t designed to do. Others shut down. Movement
patterns change — often quietly — until pain, tension, or dysfunction finally demands attention. Neurokinetic Therapy works by identifying these faulty movement patterns and addressing the root cause, not just the symptom. Rather than forcing the body into change, NKT helps the nervous system remember more efficient, original patterns of movement.
Massage therapy then supports this process by reducing protective tension, improving tissue quality, increasing circulation and awareness, and helping the body integrate new movement
strategies.

-Who This Practice Is For:
My ideal patient is someone who is ready to actively participate in their healing, understands that lasting change happens over time, is willing to commit to simple at-home practices, and
wants to restore their body rather than fight it. This work is collaborative. I don’t “fix” bodies — I guide them back toward balance and wholeness.

-Restoring Original Patterns of Wholeness:
The body is intelligent. Healing isn’t about adding more — it’s often about removing interference so the body can do what it already knows how to do. Through assessment, hands-on treatment, and nervous-system-based re-education, my goal is to help your body reconnect to efficient movement, reduce recurring injuries, build resilience and awareness, and feel more stable, integrated, and whole.

A Commitment to Care — In the Clinic and at Home:
True healing doesn’t stop when you leave the treatment room. Your sessions will include targeted Neurokinetic Therapy assessments, massage therapy, corrective movement or awareness exercises, and education to help you understand your body. The at-home component is just as important — and always tailored to fit realistically into your life.

-Welcome Back to Yourself:
If you’re ready to slow down, listen to your body, and invest in long-term change, I look forward to working with you. This is an invitation — not just to pain relief — but to restoring the way your body was designed to move and feel.
