Grief isn't always about someone who has died.
Sometimes it's about someone who is still here, but no longer present in the way they once were. A parent living with dementia. An adult child you've become estranged from. A friendship that quietly dissolved.
This kind of grief is called ambiguous loss. It's disorienting because there's no clear moment of ending, no ritual to mark it, no socially sanctioned way to mourn it.
But the pain is real. And it deserves just as much care.
