Our team recently completed a two-day in-house continuing education course led by Mike Haddock, Strength & Conditioning Coach. Mike brings years of experience in strength and conditioning, working with high performance athletes and Team Canada Ultimate Frisbee 🌟

The course focused on building stronger systems for athlete development, including programming principles, long-term training strategies, and practical application of strength and conditioning. Key topics included the development of power, speed, agility, and quickness, with an emphasis on creating structured, evidence-informed programs that can be applied across a wide range of athletes.

Investing in continuing education as a team helps ensure we continue to provide the highest quality care and performance training for our patients and athletes.😎

Heel pain can make every step uncomfortable, but the cause isn't always the same. 👣

Three common sources of heel pain include:

👉 Plantar Fasciitis
Inflammation or irritation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that supports the arch of your foot. Symptoms are often most noticeable with the first few steps in the morning or after periods of rest.

👉 Heel Spurs
A bony growth that develops on the heel bone over time. While many people have heel spurs without symptoms, they can sometimes contribute to heel discomfort when combined with other foot conditions.

👉 Fat Pad Atrophy
The heel's natural shock absorber can become thinner over time, reducing cushioning and causing a deep, bruised sensation under the heel—especially during walking or standing.

The good news? Many causes of heel pain respond well to conservative treatment, including physiotherapy, exercise, footwear modifications, and activity management.

If heel pain is limiting your daily activities, an assessment can help determine the underlying cause and create a treatment plan that's right for you. Hyaluronic Acid injections are a possible therapy option if conservative treatment isn't effective.

BEFORE watching the videos, vote on who you think won and how many pods they’re able to hit. (if voting for Jess, comment Jess, we could only put 4 names in the poll🙈)

This was supposed to be a post talking about Blaze Pods and why we use them at DTRC. Instead, this has turned into a competition. It’s like there’s a bunch of athletic, competitive people working here or something??

Dayna, Katie, Jess, Dave, and Scott all wanted to take a shot at seeing how many pods they could hit in under 30 seconds…🏃🏃‍♀️

“Trust the process & respect the graft.” 💪

One of Matt’s patients, Jeff Shrigley, surprised him with this shirt. A fitting reminder of the hard work that goes into recovery.

Jeff is currently 12 weeks post-ACL reconstruction and has been working with Matt every step of the way, both before and after surgery. Before his procedure, Matt guided Jeff through a prehabilitation program focused on building strength, improving mobility, and preparing his body for surgery. Since then, they’ve continued working together through a structured rehabilitation plan aimed at restoring motion, rebuilding strength, and progressing safely toward a full return to activity.

Recovery is a process, and Jeff’s commitment to the work is a great example of what it takes to get back stronger. 👏💙

Please join us in welcoming Katie Miglioranza and Alexia Lemay-Evans to the DTRC team this summer! 🌟

Katie recently graduated from Laurentian University with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, where she combined her passion for health, fitness, and helping others with an impressive athletic career. As captain of Laurentian’s flag football team, she competed at the national level while developing strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills. This fall, Katie will begin her Master of Physiotherapy at Brunel University in London, England. Before then, she’s excited to gain valuable hands-on experience and connect with members of our community.

Alexia recently completed her fourth year of Kinesiology at Acadia University. A Greater Sudbury native and former member of the Acadia Axewomen Volleyball team, she has developed a strong interest in injury prevention, performance training, and supporting athletes in reaching their full potential. Through her experiences as a varsity athlete, Alexia has gained a unique understanding of the physical and mental demands of sport and is eager to continue building her knowledge in rehabilitation, health, and performance.

We’re thrilled to have Katie and Alexia join us and look forward to the energy, passion, and dedication they’ll bring to our team. Be sure to say hello when you see them around the clinic! 👋💙

It was a bad day to be a hot dog because DTRC made their way to Lively Golf Course for a company tournament!!⛳️

And it’s safe to say we all had a great time… especially the winners 👀

Now, you might be asking yourself:
Why is Pat in a dress?
Who’s lying on the ground and why?
And where did they find those hot dog hats?

All very valid questions. You might just have to comment and see who’s willing to answer.
