In 2005, I was frustrated with the commercial products on the market for skin care, tired of constantly experiencing dry, itchy skin that no amount of lotion or different moisturizing body washes would help. I was also tired of applying lotion twice a day, because the soap I was currently using kept drying out my skin and then having to reapply mid day because my skin was once again dry. I couldn’
t help but to think why, why wasn’t there a skin care line out on the market that was able to help my skin. What my personal research came up with, was that a lot of the commercial products on the market used a lot of the same ingredients and those ingredients relied heavily on synthetic chemicals and/or petroleum based materials. It showed to me, that the synthetic chemicals & petroleum ingredients these companies were adding to enhance either the lather, enhance the feel of the lotion, create the scents or get you clean were actually stripping the natural oils from my skin and not allowing it to breathe. This personal research raised quite a few concerns on the impact of using these products on my skin, my families skin and the environment. With this new knowledge, I knew there had to be a better solution for my skin and my family’s skin, a solution that used only natural ingredients that nourished, protected and even improved the skin. I spent the next few years researching how to make lotions, the different oil properties and in which way they benefitted the skin, the different techniques of making soaps and settled on the time honored tradition of cold process soap making. By choosing to make my own lotions and soaps, I was able to use only whole, natural ingredients (no synthetic chemicals and no cheap fillers) that were not only good for the skin, but good for the environment also. Next with the support and encouragement of my family and friends, who are my testing subjects, Danu Soaps & More was created in 2006. My belief and my company’s vision statement is that we need whole, natural ingredients to nourish us inside and out, and what we use on our skin should be safe for our environment and us also.
