At Social Connections, we believe in offering a variety of specialized services targeting a range of skills including communication, friendship training, sportsmanship, activities of daily living, and academics. Our goal is to work as a team to teach the skills necessary to build successful connections with those around us through fun and engaging activities.

💡How does ABA address challenging behaviours?

We choose a replacement behaviour! Replacement behaviours are desired behaviours that we want to teach children to engage in.

There are 3 steps involved in choosing a replacement behaviour.

1️⃣ Discover the function of the behavior – why is your child engaging in this behaviour?

2️⃣ Determine a replacement behaviour – this is any behaviour that your child can do that
can replace the undesired behaviour completely. When choosing a replacement
behaviour, we need to consider the function of the behaviour in order to ensure the
same needs of your child are met by the replacement behaviour.

3️⃣ Put challenging behaviour on extinction – remove reinforcement of previously
reinforced undesired behaviour. This will cause the identified challenging behaviour to decrease, with the new replacement behaviour occurring in its place.

At Social Connections we offer a range of therapy services catering to the unique needs of each learner. Choose between parent-mediated therapy, intensive 1:1, or social groups. Each program is offered during various time slots to make sure we are available when you need us most.

​Our sole priority is providing high quality services to children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder, however, a formal diagnosis is not required for participation. Applied Behaviour Analysis is an evidence-based treatment that has been proven to be effective for skill acquisition and behaviour reduction for a wide range of populations.
