The aim is to get those people who are able to work, employed. Brown said there is a stigma around people on Ontario Works, with the thinking they just need to go out and get a job. Through the evolving Health2Work program, chiropractors provide fully-funded treatment and guidance to help people receiving social assistance alleviate their spine, muscle or joint pain, so they can work or enter job-related training.
“The reality is that a chunk of this population, the reason they’re not working is because of an injury. Frustratingly, some of those injuries were sustained while they were working and didn’t have adequate support to deal with that injury while they were working,” Brown said, adding what people are making on Ontario Works isn’t enough to pay for regular chiropractic services.
“It’s a frustrating loop because the injury is what’s preventing you from working, but you can’t address the injury in our current health care system.”
