October is ADHD Awareness Month.
ADHD is often reduced to being distracted or having difficulty sitting still, but it can affect many parts of everyday life. Starting a task, estimating how long something will take, remembering details or moving from one activity to another may require considerable effort.
These experiences can sometimes be mistaken for carelessness, disorganization or a lack of motivation. Greater understanding can help replace judgment with more useful support.
Just as each person’s workspace may look different, each person’s experience of ADHD is different too. Treatment and support should be individualized to reflect what works best for you.

Energy, concentration and emotional capacity can change from one day to the next.
A task that felt manageable yesterday may feel more difficult today. You may need more time, fewer demands or a different approach.
Responding to your current capacity is not a failure. It is information that can help you decide what support, rest or adjustment may be helpful today.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Yesterday, KB Counselling Therapy recognized Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Mental health and healing do not exist outside of history. The ongoing effects of colonialism, residential schools, forced displacement and systemic inequity continue to affect the well-being of Indigenous individuals, families and communities.

Counselling professionals have a responsibility to understand these realities and to recognize that trauma-informed care must also be culturally responsive, equity-informed and grounded in humility. This means listening to Indigenous voices, examining the assumptions built into our systems of care and continuing to learn how counselling spaces can become safer and more respectful.

We honour residential school Survivors, their families and communities, and remember the children who never returned home. Here in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq, we recognize that truth and reconciliation require ongoing learning, reflection and action.

We encourage our community to spend time with Indigenous-led resources from the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation and the Orange Shirt Society.

You do not need to have everything figured out before beginning therapy.

Sometimes the first step is simply finding a steady place to pause, notice what feels most present and consider what you may need next.

Therapy is not about someone else choosing the direction for you. It can be a collaborative space where your goals, boundaries and experiences help guide the way forward—one conversation at a time.

09/10/2026

Beginning therapy does not mean telling your whole story in the first session. Getting to know one another takes time, and you do not have to share more than you feel comfortable sharing.

Therapy can be a space where you ask questions, name your boundaries and move at a pace that feels manageable.

Therapy is not something that happens to you. At KB Counselling Therapy, the work is collaborative and client-centred. That means your goals, comfort and feedback matter throughout the process.
You are allowed to ask questions, set boundaries and say when something does not feel like the right fit. The direction can shift as your needs change. Your POV guides the dialogue. You are at the centre of the work we do together

Confidentiality is an important part of individual therapy.

At KB Counselling Therapy, protecting privacy and personal health information is part of the therapeutic process. With only specific legal and safety-related limits, what is shared in therapy stays in therapy.

A safe, non-judgmental space begins with trust, care, and clear boundaries.

One of the key modalities offered at KB Counselling Therapy is EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy.

EMDR is an evidence-based treatment for PTSD and trauma-related concerns. It can help people process distressing memories and experiences so they no longer feel as activated in the present.

For many people, this work can support healing from the impact of past trauma and help them feel more ready to reclaim the present and future.

Starting therapy can feel like a big step.

A first counselling session at KB Counselling Therapy is simply a chance to get to know each other, talk about what motivated you to reach out, and begin exploring your goals.

You are not expected to share more than you are comfortable with. Therapy is a space where you are in control, and you are always allowed to set boundaries.

Therapy is not about being told what to do.

At KB Counselling Therapy, Kendra’s style is collaborative and client-centred. That means therapist and client make choices together about what kind of support feels right, whether that includes EMDR, CBT, or another approach.

The goal is to help you feel empowered and supported throughout your healing journey.
