This October, Asthma Canada is bringing the asthma community together in Halifax, and they’d love for you to be part of it.

Meet With Provincial Decision-Makers

On October 28 and 29, Asthma Canada will be meeting with provincial decision-makers to talk about what needs to change to improve asthma care across Nova Scotia.

They’re inviting people living with asthma and caregivers to join them. Sharing what it’s like to navigate asthma and the healthcare system can help decision-makers better understand the challenges people face and what needs to change.

On October 28 at 6:00 PM ADT, they’ll also be hosting an asthma community dinner in Halifax.

Radon is a naturally-occurring radioactive gas that is the 2nd-leading cause of lung cancer. Radon gas is invisible, colorless and odorless. When trapped in homes, it can build up to dangerous levels. We create programs to educate people about radon gas so they can test and mitigate, if necessary.

On Tuesday, the LungNSPEI team had the opportunity to learn more about the Nova Scotia Lung Screening Program from Margaret Kay-Arora and Vinitha Nair of Nova Scotia Health.
Thank you for taking the time to share your work with us. Early detection can make a real difference for people at risk of lung cancer, and we're glad to see this program growing in our province.

Environmental exposures accumulate.
Both outdoor pollutants (PM2.5, nitrogen dioxide) and indoor hazards (secondhand smoke, mold, dampness) are associated with reduced lung growth and asthma development (Zhang et al., 2022; Quansah et al., 2012)5 6. Furthermore, socioeconomic factors - such as poverty, crowded housing, and limited healthcare access -create chronic stress and increase exposure to these harms, disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations (Koumpagioti et al., 2025).
