What’s actually normal when starting solids?

Gagging? ✔️
Vomiting after a gag? ✔️
Funny faces? ✔️
Spitting food out? ✔️
Throwing food/utensils? ✔️
Refusing new foods? ✔️
Playing with food? ✔️
Big bites? ✔️
Getting messy? ✔️
Barely eating anything? ✔️✔️✔️

Yep — all of this is totally normal and expected when your baby is learning how to eat! 🙌

It’s easy to assume they don’t like a food, but most of the time, these reactions are just part of the learning process. They’re exploring new textures, flavors, and skills!

So, try not to stress and be patient. Do your best to offer solids daily and give your baby the freedom to explore, learn, and get messy.

🌟 If you’re looking for a step by step plan for how to start solids BUT you have no idea where to start - register for our 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗣! We know gagging is SO scary to watch. But there is no magical age where you can introduce textures and avoid the gagging. It doesn’t exist.

When you start solids around 6 months, your baby’s gag reflex is actually at its most active... and on purpose. It’s sitting right at the front third of their tongue, and it is HIGHLY sensitive. So yes, they’re going to gag. But that reflex? It’s right there doing its job, keeping them safe while they figure out this whole eating thing.

If you hold off on textures until 9, 10, even 11 months hoping to skip the scary part... your baby is STILL going to gag. Except now? That gag reflex has moved to the back of the tongue. Which means when it triggers, it’s harder for them to manage as it’s further back in the mouth.

Waiting to offer advanced textures in hopes of skipping gagging means you’ll also miss the window where texture progression comes most naturally to babies between 6-9 months of age.

There is no shortcut here. There is no version of this where gagging doesn’t happen at some point. But there IS a version where you feel CONFIDENT knowing what’s normal, what to expect, and exactly what to offer and when... And that’s what the Texture Timeline is for!

👇 Comment “TEXTURE” below and I’ll send you our FREE Texture Timeline guide... so you can stop waiting and start feeling confident about moving forward with more advanced textures!
