✨ Advancing Equitable Pain Care Together ✨

We kicked off by coming together for a powerful Pain Hive at the annual Children's Healthcare Canada conference, focused on improving pediatric pain management for children with neurodisability.

As part of a national initiative led by SKIP, this interactive Pain Hive featured presentations from patient and caregiver partners, health professionals, and organizational partners. Participants engaged in dynamic discussions to explore what’s working well in caring for children with neurodisability, and what needs to improve to deliver quality, equitable pain care for neurodiverse children and youth.

Accessibility in healthcare means ensuring every child’s pain is seen, heard, and treated equitably. This session brought patients, caregivers, clinicians, and system leaders together to move that vision forward.

As we reflect during , we’re reminded: building accessible systems means no child is left behind when it comes to pain care.

💡 Let’s keep turning knowledge into actionable change, together. Learn more: https://kidsinpain.ca/every-pain-every-brain/

✨Implementation Spotlight ✨

This month, our spotlight shines again on Brigadoon Village. After sharing last month how their pediatric medical camps support children and youth living with pain, we're turning our focus to the healthcare professionals who care for them!

At camp, care unfolds through shared experiences like campfires, canoeing, and creative activities, that foster connection, collaboration, and wellbeing for campers and clinicians alike! Because it truly takes a village, and sometimes, camp is the best medicine for caregivers too!

💉Poorly managed pain during vaccinations can lead to long-term fear and avoidance of medical care, making early and ongoing management of children’s pain related to vaccinations essential.

🩹There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to managing pain related to vaccinations! The Procedural Pain Management Toolkit offers evidence-based strategies to help make needle experiences more comfortable, including a dedicated section on Procedural Pain and Fear in Neurodiverse Youth.

✨Implementation Spotlight ✨

This month, our spotlight shines on Brigadoon Village, whose new camp, Camp-o-Sore-Us, is creating an environment for children and youth with chronic pain to explore what living well with pain can look like. Camp-o-Sore-Us brings together camp leaders, healthcare professionals, volunteers and families to blend evidence‑informed pain‑management strategies with inclusive camp experiences - supporting kids to safely rediscover movement, confidence, and participation through play, nature and connection.

A powerful example of how pediatric pain care can extend beyond clinical settings and truly take a village! 👏
