About Thyroid Cancer
Thyroid cancer is increasing at alarming rates and yet the cause for most patients is still unknown. Given the rising rates, thyroid cancer is garnering more attention and importance across Canada, but research funding is too low. Considering the rapidly rising predominance of early stage, subclinical disease, a major focus in the diagnosis and management of thyroid cancer is

to reduce the toxicity by using better diagnostic procedures and management strategies as well as prevent and detect recurrence. There is international consensus that the single most useful non-invasive study for evaluation of thyroid nodules is ultrasound imaging. Experts agree that carefully following small thyroid nodules by regular ultrasound imaging can prevent unnecessary biopsy and surgical procedures and identify the opportunity to treat true thyroid cancers early before they spread. Unfortunately, in Nova Scotia, as in many regions worldwide, the use of ultrasound imaging and reporting remains inconsistent and suboptimal. What is required is a reliable, evidence-based ultrasound imaging protocol with structured reporting much like that used for screening mammograms for breast cancer.

Today is World Thyroid Day, and our very own Dr. Murali (Mal) Rajaraman was joined with Alexa Fletcher on CTV Morning Live Atlantic to discuss Thyroid Cancer and bring awareness to the disease along with our upcoming Blue Butterfly Evening 2026 on Saturday June 6th at the Brightwood Golf & Country Club.

Great news everyone!

Once again Thyroid Cancer Care NS is very excited to be hosting The Blue Butterfly Evening!

This year's event will be on June 6th at the Brightwood Golf & Country Club. Doors open at 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start, ending at 10:00pm.

Tickets are $90 each, or $720 for a table of 8.

As always this annual awareness gala will convey important updates on Thyroid Cancer advancements in Nova Scotia, along with offering guests delicious hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar, a 50/50 draw, wonderful music by Rose Nadira, and both silent and live auctions to enjoy!

Hello Blue Butterfly Supporters!! 😊

SAVE THE DATE, June 24th 2022!

We are delighted to announce after 2 years of diligence during the lockdowns, we are hosting our 10th Annual Blue Butterfly Evening in Support of Thyroid Cancer Care and Research!

Our event will be partly outdoors and allow us to socialize and celebrate as we have in past years, whilst also keeping in mind the health measures we have learned to observe.

Our mission is not simply to raise funds but to also educate and invite family, friends, industry and community members to contribute.

This year our spotlight will be on the awareness of thyroid cancer; acknowledging the challenges, celebrating the survivors, and appreciating the efforts and advancements that are continually being put forth by clinicians, staff and all the volunteers who help make this event happen.

We will also be sharing with you an "exciting announcement" about how the funds have supported Thyroid Cancer Care and Research and ongoing projects!

Here are some preliminary details that we are excited to share with you and we hope you will SAVE THE DATE in your calendars and schedules.

Venue: Brightwood Golf and Country Club, Dartmouth
