Curious what rTMS treatment is actually like? Here’s a look at a typical course, from your first visit to your last session.

Before treatment begins, our team takes the time to get to know your history and goals, then fits you with a cap that maps exactly where treatment should be delivered.

From there, each visit is simple: you sit comfortably, stay awake, and a magnetic coil delivers gentle pulses to the part of the brain involved in mood. No sedation, no needles, and no medication.

When the session ends, you can drive yourself home or head straight back to work. Most courses run 30 sessions over about 6 weeks, so it fits around your routine rather than taking it over.

rTMS is a Health Canada-approved option for depression that hasn’t responded to first-line treatment. Learn more at ansr.ca, or ask your provider if it could be right for you.

October 10th is World Mental Health Day, and this year's theme is a reminder that real voices drive real change.

At ANSR, better care starts with listening. Every person's experience of depression, PTSD, or chronic pain is different, and so is the path forward. When the first treatment hasn't been enough, there are more options to explore, including brain stimulation therapies.

If you've been told to keep waiting, or you've started to wonder if anything will help, you are not out of options. Talk to your provider about what could come next.

You may have heard that rTMS is only for extreme, treatment-resistant cases, or that it's risky and unproven. Neither is true.

Here's what actually happens: a small magnetic coil is placed against your scalp and delivers gentle pulses to the areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. There's no anesthesia, no sedation, and no downtime - most sessions run 10-20 minutes, and you can go straight back to your day afterward.

rTMS is approved by Health Canada and has been used in thousands of treatments across the country, with a strong safety record and no systemic side effects. It's a non-medication option for when antidepressants or therapy alone haven't gotten you where you want to be - not a treatment reserved for the most severe cases.

If depression hasn't responded the way you'd hoped, ask your provider whether rTMS could be part of your plan.

Not everything you carry into September fits in a backpack.

As summer winds down and routines start to shift, it’s a good time to check in with yourself.

Sometimes what we carry into a new season isn’t visible - low energy, poor sleep, difficulty concentrating, loss of motivation, or simply feeling like we’re not quite ourselves.

If those feelings have been sticking around, you don’t have to just push through them.

A new season can be a good time to check in, talk to your healthcare provider, and consider whether your current treatment plan is still working for you.

Depression treatment doesn’t have to be one approach or another

For many people, medication and psychological therapy are the standard starting points for treating depression. But when symptoms persist, additional treatment options may be worth exploring.

At ANSR, our treatments are designed to complement the care you’re already receiving. rTMS and other interventional treatments can work alongside your existing psychologist, therapist, psychiatrist or primary care provider - not replace them.

Our Coordinated Care approach helps bring these pieces together, supporting patients as they work toward better outcomes, greater function, and ultimately, getting back to feeling like themselves.

The goal isn’t to replace what’s already working. It’s to build on it.

Not everyone responds to the first medication.
Many people with depression continue to experience symptoms despite trying multiple antidepressants.
Our physicians offer advanced, evidence-based treatments designed for people living with treatment-resistant depression. These treatments work differently than traditional antidepressants and may provide relief when other approaches haven't.
