What a wonderful event happening this Saturday, facilitated by two wonderful people. If you know of someone affected with dementia or you yourself have dementia, this may be a great opportunity to meet others and share connection.

Join facilitators Hetty van Gurp and Tracey Hawthorne for Artful Connections: A Creative Workshop for Dementia Caregivers, a hands-on, two-hour workshop.

Saturday, May 3 | 10am – 12pm | Northwood Halifax Campus, 2615 Northwood Terrace

Through a series of simple, engaging art techniques, you will learn how to create meaningful, adaptable activities that bring connection, joy, and therapeutic benefits — no matter the stage of dementia. Gain confidence in navigating challenges, adapting activities as needs change, and incorporating creativity into your caregiving routine.

All participants will receive an art kit and a copy of Fridays with Heather: 55 Art Projects for Dementia Care to take home.

There is no charge to attend, but registration is required.

Check out this free program for young caregivers !

We are so excited to introduce a new free program for young caregivers in HRM!

We've partnered with the Young Caregivers Association to launch the Young Caregivers Pilot, starting Oct. 30, 2024, at St. Andrew's Community Centre.

✏️ Who are young caregivers?
Young caregivers are children and youth who provide care for a family member with a chronic illness, disability, mental health condition or addiction. They face unique challenges balancing school, social life and caregiving duties, so we want to help them.

✏️ About the program
This initiative is a part of Powerhouse - a renowned program developed by Young Caregivers Association in 2003. In two decades it empowered and supported thousands of kids in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. This is the first time the program is launched in Nova Scotia.

✏️ What to expect?
This six-week program will support children aged 8-12 in exploring their caregiver identity, building up self-esteem, navigating emotions, developing coping skills and connecting with their peers.

The Seniors Care Grant helps low-income seniors with the cost of household services (like lawn care, snow removal, grocery delivery, transportation, small home repairs and phone service), healthcare services (like physiotherapy and mental health support) and home heating. Grants are $750 for each household. You can apply until 31 March 2025. (Department of Seniors & Long-Term Care)

It has been a few weeks since the launch of Coastal Companions Senior Care, and I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has liked, shared, and visited our website. The support has been overwhelmingly positive, and I cannot thank you enough.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to those who may not know me. My name is Hannah, and I am the owner of Coastal Companions. I founded this company earlier this year after recognizing a growing need for companionship and non-medical care due to staff shortages. I firmly believe that human connection and small interactions are vital for maintaining our health.
