This past week, I drove back to my hometown of Digby for work. While I was there, I decided to make the drive out to Point Prim.

I originally went because I wanted to capture some video footage for a music project I’m working on.

But standing there, looking out over that enormous stretch of ocean and sky, it became something completely different.

It became a reminder of perspective.

The things that feel enormous when we're standing in the middle of them, the crisis, the uncertainty, the fear, the disappointment, the thing that didn't work out the way we thought it would, can suddenly feel very small when we remember how vast life actually is.

Sometimes we become so consumed with what is happening right now that we forget to breathe.

We forget to look up.

We forget to notice the ocean, the trees, the changing seasons, the people we love, the laughter, the quiet moments and all of the ordinary beauty happening around us.

And somewhere along the way, we've also convinced ourselves that we're supposed to be competing with one another.

Women especially.

Who is doing more?
Who looks better?
Who has accomplished more?
Who is further ahead?
Who has it all figured out?

What if we stopped?

What if instead of trying to outdo one another, we started reminding one another that we're all navigating something?

Different chapters. Different storms. Different timelines.

Standing on those rocks at Point Prim reminded me that life is much bigger than whatever difficult moment I happen to be standing in.

So breathe.

Look up.

Let the world be bigger than your worry for a few minutes.

And remember...

We're all in this together.

Your friend Deanna ❤️

One of the things I’ve been thinking about lately is how easy it is to spend years scheduling everything and everyone into our lives and somehow never actually schedule ourselves in.

Work. Family. Relationships. Responsibilities. Projects. Appointments. People who need us.

And then, if there’s anything left over, maybe we get some of it.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been intentionally changing that.

Not dramatically. Not with some giant life overhaul. Just making space for things that are for me.

Writing music. Singing lessons. Moving my body. Paying closer attention to what I eat and how I feel. Creating things simply because I enjoy creating them.

And perhaps one of the most powerful things has been giving myself two hours every week where absolutely nothing is required of me.

No phone. No conversations. No entertaining. No problem solving. No figuring out what comes next.

Just silence. Heat. Cold. The ocean. And me.

It sounds so simple, but there is something incredibly powerful about intentionally scheduling yourself into your own life.

Silence has a way of showing you things.

You start noticing what feels good. What feels heavy. What you're doing because you genuinely want to and what you're doing because somewhere along the way you decided you were supposed to.

And sometimes the most important thing we can do for ourselves isn't adding another goal.

It's creating enough quiet to hear ourselves again.

Maybe self-care isn't always bubble baths and candles.

Maybe sometimes it's simply saying:

This time belongs to me.

I’d like you to meet George.

Today I was sitting by the ocean when this seagull landed right outside my window.

And he stayed.

Wind blowing. Feathers flying. Completely unbothered.

Every now and then, he’d turn his head and just stare at me. Full-on eye contact. Like he had something to say… or was mildly concerned about my life choices.

So naturally, I named him George.

And somewhere in that ridiculous little moment, I realized George might be sticking around for a while.

George is going to be our reminder to let life roll a little more.

To stand in the wind without needing to fight it.

To stop worrying so much about what everyone else thinks.

To occasionally stare directly into the chaos and carry on with our day anyway.

There will be Thoughts by George.
There may be Life Lessons by George.
And knowing seagulls, there will almost certainly be Questionable Decisions by George.

Because maybe we don’t need every lesson in life to be heavy.

Sometimes we just need a seagull named George to remind us:

The wind is going to blow.

Let it.

Welcome to the coaching page, George. I have a feeling you’re going to fit in just fine. ❤️

Happy Monday, everyone. ☀️

A new week doesn’t always need a big plan. Sometimes it just needs one good question.
Here are three to sit with today. Which one resonates with you enough to build your week around?

✨ What would feel good to make a little more room for this week?

✨ Where could I choose “good enough” instead of putting pressure on myself to get it perfect?

✨ What’s one small thing I can do this week that Friday-me will be glad I did?

You don’t need to answer all three.
Just notice which one made you stop for a second.

Maybe that’s your question for the week. 💛

Three gentle questions to start your day. ☕️

Before the noise begins, before the to-do list takes over, give yourself a moment and ask:
What do I need from myself today?

What am I carrying this morning that I don’t need to carry into the rest of my day?

If I trusted myself completely today, what would I do differently?

You don’t need perfect answers.

Sometimes simply asking the right question is enough to change the way you move through your day.

THINGS NOT TO SAY… to someone who is making changes to their health.

1. “How much weight have you lost?”
Maybe weight loss isn’t the goal. Maybe sleeping better, moving without pain, having more energy, or feeling stronger is the win.

2. “You don’t need to lose weight.”
They didn’t ask whether you thought they did. Their relationship with their body and health belongs to them.

3. “Are you allowed to eat that?”
Unless you’ve recently been appointed CEO of their plate… probably not your department.

4. “I could never give up ______.”
Cool. You don’t have to. This isn’t your journey.

5. “You looked fine before.”
Making healthier choices doesn’t mean they hated who they were before.

6. “Just wait. You’ll probably gain it back.”
Nothing says supportive friend quite like predicting someone’s failure while they’re trying.

7. “What diet are you on?”
Maybe they’re not dieting at all. Maybe they’re learning how to nourish themselves, move differently, manage stress, build strength, or simply take better care of themselves.

8. “You’re getting too skinny.” / “You still have more to lose.”
And this is where we stop providing unsolicited performance reviews on other people’s bodies.

Here’s something we could all practice:
When someone tells you they’re making changes to feel healthier, stronger, or more at home in their body, you don’t have to evaluate their appearance.

Try:

“How are you feeling?”

And then actually listen.
Because sometimes the biggest victories have absolutely nothing to do with what the scale says.

THINGS NOT TO SAY… to someone who’s grieving.

“Everything happens for a reason.”
Wonderful. Please locate the reason and have it call me.

“At least they’re not suffering anymore.”
I know you mean well. But I’m suffering. And right now, that matters too.

“They’re in a better place.”
Maybe. But I still wanted them here.

“You need to move on.”
Grief isn't a condo. I don't need to move out.

“It’s been a while…”
Yes. I own a calendar. Grief apparently does not.

“You’re so strong.”
Sometimes I'm not strong. Sometimes I'm surviving Tuesday.

“You should start dating again.”
Interesting. I don't remember opening applications.

“I know exactly how you feel.”
Unless you climbed inside my heart and lived my exact life… probably not.

“At least you had X years together.”
Love doesn't become less painful to lose because you got a certain number of years.

So what do you say?
“I don't know what to say, but I'm here.”
“I miss them too.”
“Tell me about them.”

Or sometimes…
nothing.

Sit beside them. Bring coffee. Let them cry. Let them laugh. Let them say the same story for the 47th time.

You don't have to fix grief.

You just have to be willing to sit beside someone while they're carrying it.

I’m coming back to coaching. But I’m not coming back as the same woman who stepped away.

Over the last six or seven years, coaching has allowed me to sit beside women in some of the most pivotal seasons of their lives.

Women navigating grief and loss.
Women rebuilding after enormous life changes.
Women standing at the edge of midlife wondering, Who am I now?
Women who have spent years taking care of everyone else and are finally ready to turn some of that attention toward themselves.

My coaching style has never been about sitting across from someone and telling her how to live her life.

It’s about creating a space where she can get quiet enough to hear herself again.

I’m a multidisciplinary, internationally accredited and insured life coach, and over the years I’ve continued to expand my education across grief, NLP, hypnotherapy, somatic practices, meditation, menopause and midlife wellness, and other modalities that allow me to meet women where they actually are, not where a textbook says they should be.

My work has taken many forms: one-on-one coaching, group programs, workshops, retreats, online communities and experiences designed specifically for women.

Then, in 2023, I stepped in a different direction.

I became deeply involved in app creation and digital development, and my traditional coaching practice quietly moved into the background. I never stopped being a coach, but I stopped building my days around coaching clients.

And somewhere along the way, I realized how much I missed it.

I missed the conversations.

I missed watching the moment when a woman suddenly sees something in herself she couldn’t see before.

I missed the messy middle, the place between I can't keep living like this and I think I'm finally becoming who I was meant to be.

So, Life Coach Deanna is reopening.

There will be opportunities to work with me one-on-one, through group coaching, and through carefully created women’s retreats and experiences.

And this chapter will be different.

Because I’m different.

I’ve lived a lot of life since I first became a coach. I’ve experienced love, devastating loss, grief, reinvention, entrepreneurship, rebuilding, midlife, starting over and discovering that sometimes becoming yourself requires letting go of versions of you that once felt permanent.

I don't coach from a pedestal.

I coach from education, experience, curiosity, compassion and the belief that the woman sitting across from me already carries far more wisdom than she realizes.

Sometimes she simply needs a safe place to uncover it.

The coaching practice is reopening.

And I think this may be the most meaningful chapter yet.
