What makes a Love My Mat Bolster different?

We make our bolsters in small batches in our Hamilton, Ontario workshop. Each one has a firm, supportive shape, a removable washable cover and two sturdy handles that makes it easy to move.

Inside, you’ll find natural only cotton batting and no foam. The cotton is carefully layered and shaped by hand to create the density and structure needed for restorative yoga, supported poses and everyday rest.

Producing locally allows us to pay close attention to the details, from the way the fabric is cut to the final seams and finishing. It also means our bolsters are made by real people who know these products inside and out.

We make them to be used often, cared for and kept for years.

When did yoga become another thing we feel we need to be good at?

Somewhere between the fancy poses, impressive flexibility and picture-perfect flows, it's easy to forget that yoga can also be about slowing down.

You don't have to break a sweat, touch your toes or stand on your head to have a meaningful practice.

Sometimes all you need is a bolster, a blanket and a comfortable place to lie down.

Restorative yoga might not look like much from the outside, but giving your body the chance to settle, soften and rest can be exactly what you need.

And let's be honest, any yoga practice that encourages lying down gets our vote.

Are you team movement or team restorative yoga? Or a little of both?

Using yoga props is not cheating, and it doesn’t mean you are doing a lesser version of the pose.

A block in Triangle Pose brings the floor closer to your hand. That extra height can create more space through your chest, help you breathe more comfortably and allow you to find a steadier version of the pose.

A bolster under the hips in Pigeon pose helps to keep the pelvis neutral. It allows you to stay evenly weighted, while supporting the body enough for it to give in and soften.

Our bodies change from one day to the next. The support we need can change too. Using a prop is simply one way of listening to your body and choosing a version of the pose that works for you today.

Has a yoga prop ever completely changed how a pose feels for you?

Of all the yoga props we make, the Mini Round Bolster is probably the one I use most often.

Sometimes I use it during yoga. I place it under my knee in tabletop or Low Lunge when the floor feels too hard. I also tuck it beneath my knees in a forward fold when my hamstrings need a little more room.

But I use it just as often outside of yoga. I sit on it while playing on the floor with my kids, rest my head on it when I’m lying down and move it around the house whenever I need a small amount of support.

It isn’t our largest or most impressive-looking prop. It is simply small, light and incredibly useful. That makes it one of the easiest props to incorporate into everyday life.

Which yoga prop do you find yourself reaching for most often?

September always seems to bring a little more structure, a little more routine... and somehow a lot more to do.

I’m trying to stop waiting for life to get less busy before I make room for the things that help me feel like myself.

Sometimes that space is an hour. Sometimes it’s ten minutes.

What creates a little space in your day?

What if the answer is to stop trying so hard?

We’re surrounded by messages telling us to do more. Be more productive. Find a better routine. Get motivated. Keep going.

But sometimes you don’t need a pep talk.

Sometimes you’re just tired.

So grab a bolster. Put your feet up. Lie on the floor for ten minutes. Stare at the ceiling if you want to.

The to-do list will survive.

And if you know someone who could use a little less motivation and a little more lying down, send this their way.

Rest doesn’t always come easily. Life is busy, our minds stay active and there’s often something else that feels more urgent.

But rest doesn’t have to mean finding an entire free afternoon. Sometimes it’s a few quiet minutes, a supported stretch, a short walk or simply lying down and letting your body be still.

And what we need can change from one day to the next. A busy mind may need quiet. A tense body may need support. Restlessness may need movement before stillness.

Swipe through to find the kind of rest that might feel good today. And save this post for later, so it’s here when you need a gentle reminder to make a little space for yourself.

What kind of rest are you craving right now?

A softer life begins with allowing yourself softer moments.

Not every day can be slow. Not every season of life gives us as much space to rest as we'd like.

But softness doesn't necessarily require hours of free time.

It can be the first cup of coffee before everyone else wakes up. Sitting in the sunshine for a few minutes. Getting into bed a little earlier. Reading instead of scrolling. Taking the long way home. Lying on the floor with a bolster under your knees and doing absolutely nothing for ten minutes.

Small moments count.

And maybe that's how a softer life is actually made. Not by changing everything, but by noticing the little opportunities to be gentler with ourselves when they appear.

What does a "softer moment" look like for you? We want to know.

Give yourself permission to do less.

We know that isn't always as simple as it sounds. Life is busy, and not everyone has the luxury of an afternoon with nowhere to be and nothing that needs doing.

But doing less doesn't have to mean doing nothing.

Maybe one thing can wait until tomorrow.
Maybe dinner can be easy tonight.
Maybe you sit down for ten minutes and don't feel guilty about it.

Sometimes what you've done today is enough.

Know someone who might need that reminder? Share this with them.
