World Arthritis Day: Should You Stop Moving When Your Joints Hurt?

Not necessarily. With osteoarthritis, avoiding movement completely can make it harder to maintain strength and function.

The right approach is often about finding the right level of activity and gradually building strength around the affected joint.

At Ground Up Rehab, exercise and movement are tailored to your symptoms, goals, and ability so you can work toward staying active with confidence.

Professional hockey is back in Hamilton.

With the Hamilton Hammers’ home opener on October 9 marking the return of professional hockey to the city, it’s a good time to look at what the sport actually demands from your body.

Hockey requires quick acceleration, sudden stops, changes of direction, single-leg balance, and repeated bursts of speed.

That’s why getting back on the ice after an injury takes more than simply feeling better. Rehab should gradually rebuild the strength, control, and movement your game demands.

At Ground Up Rehab, progressive exercise and movement-based rehab can help active adults work toward returning to the activities they enjoy.

What Does Hamstring Recovery Actually Look Like?

Hamstring recovery is more than waiting for the pain to disappear.

Early rehab focuses on comfortable movement and gentle loading. As things improve, you gradually build strength, work through greater muscle lengths, and increase the demands on the hamstring.

For runners and athletes, that eventually means progressing back to faster running, acceleration, deceleration, and sport-specific movements.

A mild strain may take around 2–4 weeks, while moderate strains can take 4–8 weeks or longer. These are estimates, not clearance dates.

The goal is to rebuild the strength and capacity your hamstring needs for the activity you want to return to.

At Ground Up Rehab, we progress your rehab plan based on your symptoms, strength, movement, and activity demands.

What Is a Hamstring Strain?

A hamstring strain happens when the muscles or tendons at the back of your thigh are overloaded beyond what they can currently handle.

It can happen during sprinting, a quick change of direction, kicking, deadlifting, or even an awkward reach.

Common signs include sudden pain at the back of the thigh, tenderness, weakness, discomfort when stretching the hamstring, and sometimes bruising or swelling.

Recovery isn’t just about waiting for the pain to settle. Your hamstring needs to gradually rebuild strength, length tolerance, and the ability to handle the movements and loads you want to return to.

At Ground Up Rehab, we assess the injury and build your rehab around your activity, goals, and current capacity.

Your Golf Swing Starts With More Than Your Back

A golf swing asks your body to rotate, shift, and control movement through your hips, spine, and upper body.

When one area has limited mobility, another area may have to compensate. For some golfers, that can contribute to recurring low-back discomfort during or after a round.

The goal isn’t simply to stretch your back. A proper assessment looks at how your hips, spine, and other areas move together, then builds exercises around the mobility, strength, and control you need for your swing.

At Ground Up, we use movement-based rehab to help active adults move better and get back to the activities they enjoy.

Pre-Workout and Post-Workout Stretching Aren’t the Same

Before a workout, your goal is to prepare your body for the movements ahead. Dynamic movements and a gradual warm-up can help increase range of motion, raise body temperature, and get you ready for activity.

After your workout, slower stretches can be useful as part of a cool-down and to work on mobility when your muscles are already warm.

The key is knowing when to use each. Your warm-up should match the activity you’re about to do, while your cool-down can be a good time to focus on mobility and recovery.

At Ground Up, we look at how you move and help you build exercise and mobility strategies around your goals.

👉Top Signs of Tendon Overload You Shouldn’t Ignore

Tendon overload can build gradually when activity increases faster than the tendon can adapt.

Watch for pain or stiffness when you start exercising, symptoms that ease as you warm up, or pain that returns later that day or the next morning.

These signs do not always mean you need to stop moving. Adjusting your load and gradually building strength can help improve your tolerance to activity.

At Ground Up, rehab is tailored to your symptoms, goals, and activity level.

“The treatment table is not the finish line.”

Hands-on care can be an important part of rehab. But what happens after that matters too.

At Ground Up Chiropractic and Rehab, your appointment can move from assessment and hands-on care into exercise, movement coaching, and a progression you can work on between visits.

Because getting you moving better is only part of the goal. We want to help you build the strength and confidence to keep moving.

That is what makes Ground Up different from a traditional adjustment-only approach.
