Trauma and stress are experienced in the body—not just in thoughts.

At Healing Spaces (Kamloops + North Van + virtual across BC), we take a 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗺𝗮-𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱, 𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴
approach that makes room for nervous system awareness, without pathologising.

Trauma counselling should not feel re-traumatizing. 💛
Yes—sessions can feel intense and overwhelming, but a trauma-informed approach helps you stay regulated, come back into your body, and process safely (not reopen wounds for harm).

We use a pendulation approach (go gently into intensity, then return to regulation) so you can integrate what you’ve lived through—at the pace your nervous system can handle.

If you’re looking for support, choose a seasoned, trauma-trained clinician—because when trauma work is done without skill, it can become damaging.

Fear and courage aren’t mortal enemies, they are good buddies that ride the road together.
Fear reminds us of what we have been through.
Fear tries to keep us safe.
Courage - wise courage, integrates fear.

Can you hold space for your fear and courage at the same time?

You don't have to talk about your childhood in counselling.

Seriously!!!

If it's relevant to what you're experiencing now, we can talk about it.
If it isn't relevant? We don't have to.
If you're not ready? We can leave it alone.

And if talking about it feels too hard, that's important information too.

Counselling isn't about handing your therapist the steering wheel and hoping they figure you out. It's a collaborative relationship. Your voice, your goals, your boundaries, and your experience matter.

Maybe you're dealing with anxiety.
Maybe you're feeling heavy or disconnected.
Maybe you're navigating a huge life transition, relationship changes, burnout, grief, or an existential crisis.
Maybe you simply know that something isn't working and you want some help figuring out what comes next.

You don't have to arrive with a perfectly organized explanation.

And no, you don't have to lie on a sofa while someone analyzes your childhood dreams. 😂
Therapy can be much simpler and much more human than that.

You bring what matters to you.
We start there.

💛 What is one thing you wish more people understood about counselling?
🍃 We are here!

You don't have to know how to “do therapy” before you start therapy.
You don't need to arrive with your story neatly organized.

You don't need to know exactly what's wrong.
And you definitely don't need to know where to begin.

Sometimes the first session is a lot of talking. You're telling us everything, connecting dots, and trying to make sense of how you got here.

Sometimes you're quiet.
You're trying to find the words. You're figuring out what feels safe to share. Maybe you're not even sure what you're feeling yet.

Both are okay.

Counselling is a process of figuring things out together. Your therapist doesn't need you to arrive with all the answers. That's part of what we're there for.

So if you're thinking about starting counselling but worrying that you won't know what to say...

You can literally start with:

"I don't know where to start."

That's a perfectly good place to start. 💛
All you really need to bring is yourself, and a willingness to begin.

One of my favourite things about having a counsellor?
I have a counsellor. Yes, really. 👋

And one of the unexpected benefits of doing your own therapy is that, over time, you can start to carry some of that therapeutic relationship with you between sessions.
I was getting ready for my session this week, thinking about everything happening in my life, when I caught myself imagining what my counsellor might say.

I've spent enough time in a safe, consistent therapeutic relationship that I've internalized some of the questions she asks, the way she helps me slow down, and the way she helps me look at things differently.

That's one of the things I love about therapy.
You're not just paying for the hour you spend in the room (or on Zoom).

You're building skills, insight, self-awareness, and—when the relationship is a good fit—a new way of relating to yourself.
And sometimes that work quietly continues long after the session ends.

💛 Do you have someone whose voice you carry with you when you're figuring things out?
