One of my favourite things about having a counsellor?
I have a counsellor. Yes, really. 👋
And one of the unexpected benefits of doing your own therapy is that, over time, you can start to carry some of that therapeutic relationship with you between sessions.
I was getting ready for my session this week, thinking about everything happening in my life, when I caught myself imagining what my counsellor might say.
I've spent enough time in a safe, consistent therapeutic relationship that I've internalized some of the questions she asks, the way she helps me slow down, and the way she helps me look at things differently.
That's one of the things I love about therapy.
You're not just paying for the hour you spend in the room (or on Zoom).
You're building skills, insight, self-awareness, and—when the relationship is a good fit—a new way of relating to yourself.
And sometimes that work quietly continues long after the session ends.
💛 Do you have someone whose voice you carry with you when you're figuring things out?
