The Rich and Wonderful History of Spiritualism, Metaphysics and Parapsychology Part 1 by Rev. Weston Bailey: What we now term metaphysics and parapsychology began in the 1800's as Spiritualism. Andrew Jackson Davis was giving lectures on vast subjects unknown to him under hypnosis while public investigations were being conducted of the rappings of a spirit in the home of the Fox Sisters in New York.

Spiritualism stimulated the scientific investigations into the areas considered paranormal, rather than relegate phenomena to blind faith or superstitious beliefs. We now have a wealth of scientific inquiry into the questions: Does human personality survives the death experience? and Whether or not we can commune with the Spirit World.

Invoking the Healing Influence - The Violet Flame by Rev. Weston Bailey: All of us want peace and to live good, happy lives. We also want those things in the lives of those we love. In states of anxiety when there are challenges, we often turn to prayer, reflecting the way we think about God. In building the internal foundation of spiritual understanding and spiritual awareness, knowing that one can have what they reach out for, then one is invoking those qualities that we perceive to be of God.

Your inner vision is in direct contact with that which is the great power that is called ‘you' in consciousness - your subconscious. Much of what you do in your life is directed and controlled by your subconscious mind. It manifests what it has been programmed to do.

“To achieve any measure of success, measured as to the wealth of our inner knowing and our ability and our attunement to continually demonstrate certain principles in our lives that are unshakeable, we do that by programming that which is our subconscious through visualization technique.”

Dr. Edwin Babbitt was considered the world’s leading authority on color around the 1900’s. In his book The Principles of Light and Color, he states that “While disease…has generally been treated as originating and developing in material conditioning…it has its origin wholly in spiritual conditions.”

A color vibrates at a particular rate in order for us to see it. Scientifically and spiritually, violet is the highest vibration of the color spectrum. To stimulate and develop the spiritual nature, violet is the color to start with. It can cause transmutation or transformation.

Special machines were used in ancient Egypt to assist in the visualization of color with motion, a secret in the Mystery Schools of the time. In addition to visualizing color and the motion of color, the next step is to give color intelligence through the will or telling it what to do, such as transmuting negative thoughts and feelings.

This lecture concludes with a guided meditation in the use of the Violet Flame.

Suggestions for Self Culture and the Violet Flame: In this lecture, Rev. Weston Bailey continues a discussion of color. This is one of the most important areas of study, because color influences consciousness. It is a tremendous vibration of healing within the biological organism, as well as within the levels of our consciousness - those facets that make up the total I. Violet in particular is focused upon.

Scientists have been able to measure the vibratory rate of various colors. Violet is the highest vibration of the color spectrum. When used in visualization, it is a transmutive energy to that which is negative within our own nature. Among those: ignorance, hate and gossip.

If you find yourself thinking negatively, either about yourself or about someone else, you can invoke a positive energy. Seeing yourself filled and surrounded in violet light energy, going back to the negative experience and transmuting it, getting yourself into a positive framework where you can change and alter thinking, stimulates the spirit consciousness.

Yellow and Blue: What is conveyed in this lecture is how to gain greater control of the vacillations in thought and feeling. In other words, being more sure of your thoughts and your feelings. Most of the dis-ease that exists in our culture, that eventually manifests as a disease, starts as a disharmony between the etheric body that we call the mind, and the etheric body that we call the emotional self.

That which stimulates the functioning of the mental processes is the color energy yellow. Blue is the balm for emotional stresses. Looking at a color will bring an influence into your life. If you begin to visualize color in your mind’s eye, seeing the motion of these colors, adding affirmations that give intelligence to these energies, there is a spiritual healing to the mind and emotions.
