Pathways Abilities Society

Pathways Abilities Society Originally known as the Sunnyvale School, it was created to ensure children with disabilities had an opportunity for education just like everyone else.

Pathways is a non-profit, registered charity, whose mission is โ€œTo assist people with disabilities to reach their individual goals and contribute as equal members of communityโ€. Pathways Abilities Society (formerly Kelowna and District Society for Community Living) has been serving adults with developmental disabilities in Kelowna and area since 1953! These days, children with developmental disabi

lities (or 'different abilities' as some chose to say) are taken through school via School District #23 with everyone else. When they become adults, however, the services through the school stops. KDSCL is a place to come to receive further assistance with life skills, employment, volunteerism and meaningful activity. KDSCL serves over 150 individuals and their families to live productive and happy lives.

Home sharing is a rewarding, paid opportunity that gives adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities the freedom to choose where they live, thrive as independent adults, and share a home with a Home Share Provider. Home share services are offered in many ways. Some people live with a family, others live with a roommate or a couple, and some may live in a separate suite that is part of the home. To learn more about becoming a home share provider or to ask questions about home sharing, please contact one of our Home Share Coordinators at 250-763-4837 Extension 129, 229, or 230.

National Volunteer Week is running from April 19-25 this year, focusing on the theme "Ignite Volunteerism". This annual, week-long celebration highlights the vital contributions volunteers make to communities through their time, energy, and dedication. The 2026 theme celebrates the power of participation, encouraging people to "Find Your Thing" and reconnect with their communities.

Pathways individuals volunteer at several different locations in the Kelowna Area, contributing and giving back to their community.

Pictured is one of our valued members, Scott Gould, who volunteers at the Kelowna SPCA each week. We are so proud of you, Scott! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿˆ

This March 31st, we recognize International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV), a day dedicated to celebrating the lives, contributions, and resilience of transgender people. Let us continue to shift the narrative beyond challenges, and instead centre visibility, empowerment, and the right to live authentically.

On 31 March, the world marks International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV), a day dedicated to celebrating the lives, contributions, and resilience of transgender people. Established in 2010 by trans advocate Rachel Crandall, TDOV was created to shift the narrative beyond challenges, and instead centre visibility, empowerment, and the right to live authentically.

This yearโ€™s theme, โ€œStand Visible. Stand Together.โ€, reflects the urgent need for solidarity, safety, and collective power, especially at a time when many trans and gender-diverse communities continue to face stigma, discrimination, and shrinking spaces. Visibility must go hand in hand with support, protection, and action.

Simply bring your refundable bottles to 1936 Kent Road in Kelowna, and look for the Pathways sign along Bredin Road. Supporting your local non-profit makes a difference! ๐Ÿ’™
