These past couple weeks have been heavy for so many across BC, and more recently, here in the Okanagan. Wildfires, evacuations, smoke, and uncertainty don’t just affect our homes and routines, they affect our bodies. When the world feels unsettled, the nervous system stays on alert and sleep often becomes lighter, shorter or harder to settle into. That's a human response to stress.
If you’ve felt more tense, more emotional, or more restless at night, you’re not alone. Many people are carrying a quiet weight right now; worry for loved ones and homes, concern for animals and the strain of days spent under smoky skies.
Today’s clearer air has been a welcome relief, and for some, a moment to finally exhale. If your system is still wound tight, try to give yourself permission to relax tonight. Dim the lights a little earlier. Step away from updates for a while. Take a slow breath that tells your body it’s safe to ease down. Even small moments of calm can help your system find its footing again.
Community Sleep Coach is sending steadiness and care to everyone navigating this difficult situation.
