Oral iron can be incredibly helpful for treating iron deficiency in adults – but it’s important to remember these tablets can be dangerous if accidentally ingested by young children. Even a small amount can lead to serious poisoning and require emergency care.

If you keep iron supplements at home:
• Store them high up and out of sight
• Use child-proof containers
• Never refer to them as “candy”
• Seek urgent medical attention if a child may have swallowed any iron

Keeping our little ones safe starts at home. 🩺❤️

Two evidence-based ways to boost oral iron absorption:

1️⃣ **Pair iron with vitamin C**
Vitamin C helps convert iron into a form that’s easier to absorb in the gut. Studies show vitamin C can significantly increase iron uptake when taken together – try pairing your iron with citrus fruits, berries, or a small glass of orange juice for better results.

2️⃣ **Don’t take iron every day**
Iron supplements taken daily can increase a hormone called *hepcidin*, which reduces iron absorption. Research shows taking iron on alternate days can lower hepcidin levels and improve how much iron your body absorbs from each dose.

🕒 **Best time to take it:**
Take iron on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning or between meals, if tolerated. If this causes nausea, take with a small amount of food (but avoid calcium at the same time).

Medication Overuse Headaches (MOH) are more common than most people think. When we rely too frequently on pain medications (even over-the-counter ones), the brain can become more sensitive to pain over time — leading to more frequent and more severe headaches and migraines.

If you’re finding yourself reaching for pain meds more days than not, you’re not alone — and there *are* better treatment options.
I help patients get to the root cause of their headaches and build a sustainable plan for long-term relief.

Is your hair feeling brittle, breaking easily, or shedding more than usual? You might be low in iron — and we’re not just talking about fatigue.

Hair loss in women is often linked to low ferritin, your body’s iron storage protein. If your levels are below 80–100 μg/L, your body might prioritise vital organs over your hair follicles — leading to thin, dry, or slow-growing hair.

🩸 Common causes include heavy periods, pregnancy, inflammation, and poor absorption.

If you suspect this might be you, we recommend speaking to your GP or booking a consult to test your levels and create a personalised plan.

Your hair is a reflection of your health. Let’s work together to get to the root cause 💛

Interesting Fact About Brow Lifts! 💡

Did you know that a brow lift isn’t just about aesthetics? In some cases, sagging brows can contribute to vision obstruction by pressing down on the upper eyelids. A subtle lift can help open up the eye area, creating a more refreshed look while also improving peripheral vision.

This procedure is often done in a way that maintains natural facial expressions, avoiding an overdone or “surprised” look.

Understanding facial anatomy and how small changes can impact both appearance and function is fascinating! What are your thoughts on brow lifts?

Let’s discuss in the comments!
