Methylene blue isn't a single-dose compound — the goal drives the protocol. 🔵
At low doses (typically 1–4 mg/day), methylene blue supports mitochondrial function and general energy metabolism. This is the range most patients start with when we introduce it as part of a longevity or cognitive support protocol.
At higher doses — 25 to 75 mg — research suggests it can begin to reduce tau protein formations and amyloid plaques, the pathological features associated with cognitive decline. This is a meaningfully different therapeutic target.
However, higher doses carry real considerations. Before starting at these levels, patients require a G6PD (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase) test. Without this, high-dose methylene blue can trigger hemolytic anemia — a potentially serious complication.
