🚑🚓🚒 **First responders spend their careers showing up for others. Who supports them?**

The demands of the job don't end when the shift does.

Exposure to trauma, critical incidents, operational stress, leadership pressures, and the constant expectation to perform can take a toll on even the most resilient professionals.

At **KORR Performance & Psychotherapy**, we work with first responder teams and organizations to build:

🛡️ Mental Resilience
🎯 Peak Performance
🤝 Stronger Team Cohesion
❤️ Long-Term Well-Being

Our approach combines performance psychology and psychotherapy to help individuals and teams navigate challenges, strengthen coping skills, and perform at their best—both on and off duty.

Because supporting the mental health of your people isn't just the right thing to do—it's essential to a healthy, effective organization.

**Strong teams start with strong minds.**

“Being a first responder isn’t just a job — it becomes an identity. And that identity is really hard to get away from.”

New episode of The Heart Attack Thriver Podcast is LIVE! 🎙️ In Episode 4, I sit down with Patrick Callaghan, a former paramedic turned Registered Psychotherapist. We talk about the realities of first responder trauma, breaking out of the “first responder identity trap,” and how to actually thrive after a major health event.

Patrick was the paramedic who attended to me when I had my heart attack back in 2016. Ten years later, it is an absolute honor to reconnect and share his incredible journey from the front lines to helping others heal their minds.

You get to choose. You have the power within you. You can live your best life.

PTSD Service Dog Program for First Responders

A Partner for the Journey. A Companion for Life.
Living with PTSD can feel isolating, exhausting, and overwhelming. At Boots On The Ground, we believe that healing happens through connection, support, and purpose.

Our PTSD Service Dog Program helps first responders build a life-changing partnership with a professionally selected service dog while receiving expert guidance through every step of the training process.

Since 2020, we have helped first responders develop the skills, confidence, and bond needed to train their own service dog—creating a trusted companion that can provide support both at home and in the community.

What Makes Our Program Different?
Unlike many service dog programs, participants are involved from the very beginning.

You will be matched with a carefully selected puppy and guided through the entire training journey. Together, you and your dog will learn, grow, and build the unique bond that forms the foundation of a successful service dog team.

Our small class sizes of only 3–5 participants ensure personalized support, individual attention, and a strong sense of community throughout the program.

How the Program Works
Step 1: Puppy Matching
We carefully select and purchase a puppy based on temperament, suitability, and the participant’s individual needs.

Step 2: Bringing Your Puppy Home
Your journey begins immediately as you welcome your puppy into your home and start building your partnership.

Step 3: Guided Training
Participants attend:

One in-person daytime training session each week
One online follow-up session each week
As your puppy progresses, training transitions to bi-weekly in-person sessions.

Step 4: Specialized Service Dog Tasks
At approximately 12–14 months, training focuses on PTSD-specific service dog tasks, which may include:
Deep Pressure Therapy
Night-time interruption
Behaviour interruption
Personalized support tasks tailored to individual needs

Step 5: Graduation
Most teams complete the program within 18–24 months and emerge with a highly trained service dog and a powerful bond built through dedication and teamwork.

Is This Program Right for You?
Successful participants are committed to:

Attending weekly training sessions
Practicing training techniques daily
Providing routine veterinary care and grooming
Maintaining regular exercise and enrichment for their dog
Building a consistent, structured relationship with their service dog

**Applicants should not have other dogs or cats in the home and should be far enough along in their wellness journey to actively participate in the daily care and training required for success.

More Than a Service Dog
This program is about more than training a dog.

It’s about rebuilding confidence, creating connection, developing routine, and gaining a loyal partner who can help navigate the challenges of PTSD.

The journey requires commitment, patience, and hard work—but you won’t walk it alone.

Ready to Learn More?
If you are a first responder living with PTSD and are interested in learning more about our PTSD Service Dog Program, we would love to hear from you.

☀️ Sunshine is Nature’s Mood Booster ☀️

Did you know that spending just 10–20 minutes in the sunshine can help improve your mood, boost energy levels, and support overall mental wellness?

Sunlight helps your body produce serotonin, often called the "feel-good" chemical, which can promote feelings of happiness, calmness, and focus. Whether it's a morning walk, sitting outside during your lunch break, or enjoying a few moments in nature, those rays can make a difference.

Today, take a moment to step outside, breathe deeply, and let the sunshine work its magic. Your mind and body will thank you. 🌞
