Ageism is the one prejudice with a waiting list that includes everybody.
A few things every Canadian family should know:
→ 70% of Canadians aged 50+ experienced everyday ageism in the past year. Only 12% named it as discrimination.
→ It usually sounds kind. Slower speech, louder voice, "let me get that for you," a joke about senior moments.
→ It shows up in health care. When symptoms get filed under "just aging," real conditions go untreated.
→ It gets worse the more you already carry. Canadians over 80, in poor health, or struggling financially report the most of it.
→ Canadians underestimate it badly. The average guess is that 10% of people hold ageist views. The real figure is closer to half.
