The team at Plum Tree Memory Care is proud to share the publication of our completed study, Feasibility and Acceptability of a Virtual Home Assessment for Supporting People with Dementia to Live at Home. The purpose of this study was to gauge the practicality and acceptability of virtual home safety assessments designed to support individuals living with dementia and their care partners.

Findings suggest that virtual assessments are a well-received and accessible approach to identifying safety concerns, supporting independence at home while connecting individuals with appropriate services and resources. Virtual assessments may be especially valuable for individuals who face barriers to accessing in-person services, including those living in rural and remote communities.

We are pleased to contribute to research that advances innovative approaches to dementia care and helps support people living with dementia to remain safely at home for longer. The full study can be viewed at

This video highlights proactive steps you can take to manage memory concerns. Anti-amyloid therapies are only potentially effective for individuals whose memory loss is from underlying Alzheimer’s disease pathology, and not everyone will be eligible for this type of treatment. However, there are still many lifestyle interventions that have protective effects against memory loss and help to maintain quality of life, particularly at earlier stages of memory loss. Early assessment and care from a specialized health care team is a key first step to any plan for maintaining independence and quality of life.

This video explains how Alzheimer’s disease is linked to the accumulation of amyloid-beta plaques in the brain, which can interfere with various cognitive functions like memory. Anti-amyloid therapies are a promising new treatment that target these plaques and potentially slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

Unlike traditional treatments that only address symptoms temporarily, anti-amyloid therapies may offer a chance to slow the disease's underlying progression. However, they are only effective for individuals whose memory loss is caused by Alzheimer’s disease and is in early stages of the disease, which must be confirmed through specialized tests. If eligible, patients will receive intravenous injections, with careful monitoring for potential side effects. Anti-amyloid therapies represent a new hope for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease, but it’s essential to consult with a healthcare provider to determine if this treatment is right for you.
