Researchers in Ireland have reported a discovery in mice. Yeast beta glucan, a natural compound found in yeast cell walls, appeared to retrain early immune cells inside bone marrow. Those cells then produced a stronger, longer lasting anti tumor response when exposed to colorectal, skin, and breast cancer cells.
The most important detail is where the change happened. Bone marrow is the body’s immune cell factory. In the study, mice received yeast beta glucan in their diet for 4 to 12 weeks. Researchers found signs of trained immunity, meaning the innate immune system responded more effectively after reprogramming. The supplement also improved cancer related immune dysfunction linked to obesity, including defects that remained after weight loss.
This does not mean yeast supplements cure cancer. These findings were observed in laboratory mice, not people, and human clinical trials are still needed. Cancer treatment should never be replaced with a supplement or a social media claim.
