Gua Sha is a Traditional Chinese Medicine technique that was classically used to treat or expel illness before it rooted in the interior.

Although it has gained popularity for its use in cosmetic acupuncture, it is commonly used by TCM practitioners for pain, joint inflammation, stiff and sore muscles, and relieving fever and colds.

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is a natural and safe treatment that has been utilized for many years to help firm and tighten skin, soften wrinkles, and reduce irregularities within each individual’s complexion.

From a TCM perspective Facial Acupuncture nourishes and invigorates Qi and blood and regulates disharmonies in the systems and channels associated with the production and distribution of these substances.

Facial acupuncture affects the dermis of the skin (which lays deep to the epidermis), specifically the reticular layer of the dermis which is made up of an interwoven collagen and elastin fibre network, which enables the dermis to stretch and recoil repeatedly with normal movements of the facial muscles.

Hormones, aging and exposure to environmental factors reduces the flexibility and thickness of the dermis which in turn leads to wrinkles and looser skin.

One component of local facial needling is the micro-tears that happen upon insertion into the dermis which increases blood flow to the area and stimulates dermal repairs thus tightening the skin and softening wrinkles. —> This may sound a little scary but this treatment is not painful and on average the dermis is only ~ 1-4 mm deep from the surface of the skin!
