🌿 Understanding Acupuncture Through a Modern Lens
Thousands of years ago, Chinese physicians observed that stimulating specific points on the body could influence pain, digestion, sleep, stress, and overall health.
Without the language of nerves, hormones, or physiology, they described these relationships through a system of meridians—pathways that connected different parts of the body, much like rivers flowing through a landscape.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, when the flow within these pathways becomes disrupted, symptoms such as pain, tension, or illness can arise.
Today, modern research shows that many acupuncture points have measurable effects on the nervous system. By stimulating specific points, acupuncture can influence nerve signaling, circulation, muscle tension, and the body’s ability to regulate and heal itself.
While the language may be different, the observation remains the same:
When communication within the body is disrupted, dysfunction can occur. When balance and flow are restored, the body functions better.
Ancient practitioners called it Qi flowing through meridians.
Modern science studies it through the nervous system and other physiological processes.
Different language. Same body. 🌿
