🌸 Blessed Beltane!! 🌸
Beltane, also known as May Day, is a pagan holiday that is celebrated on May 1st (or the night before). This Sabbat celebrates the new beginning of the growing season, fertility, and the continued renewal of life.
Beltane is one of the 8 Pagan celebrations on the Wheel of the Year, and marks the midway point between the Spring Equinox (Ostara) and the Summer Solstice (Litha).
Pre-Christian Celts separated the year into 2 “seasons”; Winter and the start of the year on November 1 (Samhain), and midyear or Summer on May 1 (Beltane).
During this time, the Celts would move their cattle from their winter pasture, between 2 bonfires, and to their summer pasture land; the bonfires were to clear and then protect the cattle from disease and bring forth fertility and a plentiful season.
It is also believed that at Beltane, just as it is at Samhain (the opposite of Beltane), the veil between the physical and spiritual worlds are at their thinnest.
This time of year is perfect for honoring themes of fertility, creativity, abundance, and joy.
Here are some activities and rituals that you can do to celebrate Beltane:
🌸 Decorate with Flowers - Beltane is a time to celebrate the fertility of the land, and one of the best ways to do that is to decorate with flowers. Make flower crowns, create flower arrangements, decorate your altar, gift flowers to friends/family.
🌸 Have a Bonfire - Lighting a bonfire is a common Beltane tradition. Sit around the fire and chant, sing, dance, or tell stories! Fire honours the suns heat.
🌸 Make a Spring Altar - Decorate your home or altar with spring colors such as green, pink, and white. Symbols of fertility such as eggs, rabbits, and horns can also be included.
🌸 Charge Your Crystals and Gemstones - Beltane is a time of energy and renewal. Charge your crystals and gemstones by leaving them outside under the full moon and charging them with the energy of the season.
🌸 Sow your Seeds - May is a perfect time to plant seeds for the new growing season. Planting a vegetable or flower garden can be a great way to honor the earth and celebrate the beginning of the growing season. Whether it’s a garden plot, containers, or pots, sowing seeds welcomes new beginnings!
Take the time to honor the fertility of the land, connect with the community, and celebrate new beginnings!
💜 Today is the first of the month so, that means it’s also time to do your cinnamon ritual, which goes right along with welcoming in new beginnings, fertility, abundance, and growth!!
💜💜 Today is ALSO the first of TWO Full Moons we have this month (we have a Blue Moon on May 31!) so the energy is illuminating things in your life that may be completed, no longer align, things that need some more time or work, and an overall space for reflection of the last moon cycle. What can you let go of?
