Are you afraid to work out because of pain? Well you’re not alone.
For many people, pain is the biggest barrier to exercise along side not having the time.
Maybe it’s a sore knee, an achy lower back (don’t we all?), shoulder discomfort, arthritis, or an old injury that never quite feels quite right.
The problem is that avoiding movement completely can actually sometimes make you feel weaker, stiffer, and less confident in what your body can do.
That doesn’t mean you should push through pain or do the whole “no pain no gain” BS, it means you need to understand it.
This is why a qualified personal trainer can help you:
- Identify movements that aggravate symptoms and adjust.
- modify exercises instead of abandoning them
- Adjust weight, range of motion, pace, position, and volume
- Strengthen or stretch the muscles that support the areas causing concern.
- Build confidence and strength gradually and properly
- Know when a symptom needs referral to a physiotherapist or other health professional or when it’s okay to keep doing what you’re doing.
You don’t need to be pain free, fit, or confident before you start. You need a plan that works with your body and where you’re at.
