For occupational therapist, Leah Taylor, excellent patient care means centering the individual as the expert in their own life.
Since joining St. Joseph's earlier this year, Leah has worked across Parkwood Institute's Transitional Lifelong Care Program, Inpatient Stroke Rehabilitation and Community Outpatient Rehabilitation Program, so no two days look the same. Whether she's helping someone regain the ability to use a fork and knife, access equipment for their home, return to work or relearn everyday activities after a stroke, Leah supports patients in achieving goals that are meaningful to them.
"What I love most about my role is seeing the progress my patients make. It is incredibly meaningful to see patients work hard, implement new strategies and achieve their goals."
Leah says that progress starts with building relationships rooted in trust, offering authentic kindness and ensuring every patient feels valued and heard.
Occupational therapists work creatively with people at all stages of life, helping them participate in the activities that are meaningful and important to them. From daily tasks and hobbies to community participation and work, occupational therapists empower individuals to achieve their goals and live as independently as possible.
Happy Occupational Therapy month and thank you for all the work you do for our patients and community!
