Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Canada, but it’s also one of the most preventable.

💡 What you should know:
• UV exposure is the leading cause - from the sun and tanning beds
• There is no such thing as a safe tan
• Early detection can be life-saving

🔍 Check your skin monthly using the ABCDEs:
Asymmetry | Border | Colour | Diameter | Evolving

🛡️ Protect your skin daily:
• Wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+
• Seek shade when UV Index ≥3
• Wear protective clothing + wide-brim hats
• Avoid tanning beds

In Canada, awareness matters more than ever. As rates continue to rise, and prevention is key. If you notice any changing or unusual spots, don’t wait - visit your physician and a referral can be made to Dermatology if needed!

April is Rosacea Awareness Month

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that most commonly affects the central face - including the cheeks, nose, chin, and forehead. It can present as persistent redness, flushing, visible blood vessels, and sometimes acne-like breakouts.

In Canada, rosacea affects over 3 million people, often between the ages of 30–60, and tends to flare and settle over time.

• Sun exposure, wind, and temperature changes
• Stress and exercise
• Alcohol, hot drinks, and spicy foods

✨ What helps:
• Daily sun protection - a key step in reducing flare-ups

What is Cryotherapy in Dermatology? ❄️

Cryotherapy is a quick, in-office treatment that uses extreme cold (usually liquid nitrogen) to freeze and destroy unwanted skin cells.

What is it used for?
• Warts
• Skin tags
• Actinic keratoses (precancerous spots)
• Certain benign lesions
• Some superficial skin cancers

What to expect:
The treatment takes just a few seconds per spot. You may feel a brief sting or burning sensation, followed by redness, blistering, and healing over 1-2 weeks.
