Fabio, didn't want his mom to leave the house so he came for the massage appointment.

He was a very good boy and was very helpful with treatment.

BUT

Just because you are seeing this post does not mean you can bring your pets to the clinic.

I'm sorry but we just need to be respectful of the space while still sharing a nice moment

I feel lucky to have the opportunity to have sponsored Kyle in this year's Bluenose marathon.

I am proud to be a Haligonian and to have this annual event inspire so many people to participate in something that can improve the quality of your life so much, one step at a time.

We should never take physical activity for granted as one of the best medicines to fight heart disease, strokes, diabetes, obesity, joint distinction, and even mental health.

If you know anyone who is pushing themselves in any kind of physical activity please encourage them to reach out so that I can do my part in helping them achieve their goals.

Finally! The long awaited cupping video.

I just wanted to mention down here that our goals when cupping are not to completely remove any bruising. The bruising is just a sign that we are causing an effect.

When you consider the fact that I am still massaging patients (pushing weight through my shoulders for four or five hours a day) and actively training in the gym. I am always going to have new capillaries to break, and that's okay.

I get a ton of relief from the facial aspect of cupping, but that's just much harder to show in video. (Look at my face when taking them off in the second clip)

If anyone has any questions on cupping I will be more than happy to answer them below 👇

feel free to share with someone who's struggling with chronic pain. I'm not saying this is the solution but it's something that may help!

With all the posts I've been doing on cupping lately, I thought this would be a great treatment to share. To try and give a full picture of what cupping therapy can look like over the long term.

This patient is very active, pushing himself daily in the gym, as you can tell by the visible tone in his back.

So... Why doesn't he have the same dark marks as other patients?

The truth is, he used to. This patient is a regular of mine, and we've been doing cupping for years. (It would not take that long to get these kinds of results though).

The dark marks we normally see from cupping are from broken capillaries. If we are not able to break the capillaries in the area, it's a sign that the capillaries are strong and there's most likely good circulation for the muscles.

Despite not being able to break any of his capillaries, he still enjoys the fascial release that comes from cupping.

I hope the takeaway from my series of posts on cupping is that, although some marks may seem dramatic, the marks from cupping are perfectly safe and may indicate weak capillaries around your muscles, which could affect their ability to recover.

Stay tuned for a video on the topic to conclude this educational series.

I'm not sure we talk about self care enough in our culture.

Every day I meet people that work so hard at their jobs, taking care of their families, and helping others, that they often miss an opportunity to slow down and take time for themselves.

The gentleman in this post had worked 14 days straight. On his feet for the entire work day and was often lifting heavy boxes as he went throughout his day.

He booked a two hour massage to have an in-depth full body treatment and he was eager to try cupping for the first time.

Other than just feeling tired, he didn't have any specific muscular issues but we can clearly see the fatigue in the muscles in his back that help keep him standing as he goes throughout his day.

I'm a firm believer that massage doesn't always need to be therapeutic or relaxing and oftentimes it should be both.

When someone is relaxed their muscles are easier to work on, when someone has the tension worked out of their muscles they often feel very relaxed. So both ideas for treatment go hand in hand.

If you're reading this post and can't remember the last time you took the time to relax, this is your reminder:

Go for a walk in nature. 🌳
Make art. 🎨🖼️
Meditate and do breath work.🧘‍♂️
Or, get a massage.💆‍♂️

You deserve it.

We have been seeing quite a few runners book in as the weather starts to get nicer!

Working the feet, calves, hamstrings, quads, and especially the ITB are crucial for staying in your sport if you plan to do some serious distance.

The reason why I emphasized the ITB is because it may be one of the most important structures for runners.

Located on the outside of the thigh, the iliotibial band (ITB) is not a muscle but actually a thick band of fascia. It acts as a shock absorber for impact and is always a tender point for runners.

As cupping can have great effects on fascia we made sure to include them in this treatment along with the deep tissue massage and instrument work to the soles of the feet.

If you know a runner in need of some maintenance feel free to share this with them :).

I am a strong believer in cupping and instrument work to help chronic muscular injuries.

Especially if you work hard at the gym.

Especially if you have a job that pushes your body.

To some, this might look a little extreme, but if we consider the process of angiogenesis, the process by which the body creates new blood vessels to help support muscular function. It can explain why some people have more vibrant reactions than others.

In my practice, I have personally seen patients who consistently receive cupping greatly reduce or no longer receive any kind of bruising, while also seeing major improvement and recovery from their chronic injury.

This process is known as neovascularization. In the same way that we cause micro tears in our muscles to make them stronger. We challenge our bones with exercise to increase their density. We can also see that breaking these small blood vessels causes the body's response to repair and improve circulation in that area.

You might wonder, why do we care so much about circulation? It is because it's the most important part of any kind of recovery in the body. We need to deliver nutrients and remove waste, and the faster the better, right?

So please, if you have had a chronic injury that you have accepted into your life, seek out practitioners who will try a variety of modalities to find what works best for helping you.

There is growth in discomfort.

I've always been the person who is excited to do my taxes because I always get something back from maxing out my RRSP (pro tip)

But that was when I only had a T4 to worry about...

As a self employed individual there's a bit more that goes into it, but being able to write off items for the business and calculate depreciation on my assets has never been more thrilling.
