Pleasure to inform you HiGarden International Inc. in collaboration with EmersonGrow Technology Inc, a light manufacturer, have developed new light-soil combinations.
🟫 our soil combines organic ingredients like worm castings and biochar into an alternative to potting soils and garden soils mined from the rural landscape.
⚡️ customized spectrum of LED grow lights played a key role too for efficient growth of crops.
🍀 together, we demonstrated an impressive doubling of kale yields over potting soil controls as well as high mold resistance.
Collaboration of the companies is expected to continue with work towards a common vision: A future where efficient organic growing is the standard in indoor and urban agriculture.

We all know that plants are beautiful to watch grow and can even add a great aroma to our homes, but plants also have many medicinal benefits that are also forgotten. Even the common herbs that we use have medicinal benefits. For example, rosemary leaves and oil has been used to combat hair loss. That’s not all, basil has also been linked with being able to alleviate stomach pain and even treat snake and insect bites! What other plants/herbs do you use, that also have medicinal benefits?

People of all ages can enjoy gardening, but children in particular will have lots of fun and gain special benefits. Gardening is educational and develops new skills including:

· Responsibility – from caring for plants

· Understanding – as they learn about cause and effect (for example, plants die without water, weeds compete with plants)

· Self-confidence – from achieving their goals and enjoying the food they have grown

· Love of nature – a chance to learn about the outdoor environment in a safe and pleasant place

· Reasoning and discovery – learning about the science of plants, animals, weather, the environment, nutrition and simple construction

· Physical activity – doing something fun and productive

· Creativity – finding new and exciting ways to grow food

· Nutrition – learning about where fresh food comes from.

At HiGarden, we aim to incorporate gardening programs into curriculum because of the important health and sustainability lessons these opportunities afford kids. Our main educational products are: Natural and Wetland Ecosystems. For more information, visit us at https://www.higarden.ca/

Living organisms are adapted to their environment. This means that the way they look, the way they behave, how they are built, or their way of life makes them suited to survive and reproduce in their habitats.

Aquatic snails like the Pond Snail fill a vital role at the base of any ecosystem. They eat decaying organic matter and algae, keeping these in check and recycling nutrients for use by bacteria, algae, plants and, ultimately, other animals. As a special adaptation to life in shallow ponds, they have the ability to breathe air as well as absorb oxygen through its skin.

The VIGA system incorporates aspects of the carbon cycle AND nitrogen cycle that occur in nature. It works just like a miniature ecosystem. The fish excrete ammonia in their waste, after which earthworms living in the biochar help break down the ammonia in fish water into Nitrites and then Nitrates through their healthy bacteria. The nitrates are then consumed by the plants and gives them the nutrients they need to grow. As the plants and algae grow, they turn carbon in the air into the oxygen we breathe. In this way toxic fish waste is transformed into fresh produce through the nitrogen cycle.
Can you name some of the carbon capturing plants in this picture?

Nature in the Space is a kind of biophilic design that addresses the direct, physical and transient presence of nature in a space or place. This includes plant life, water and animals, as well as breezes, sounds, scents and other natural elements.

Here are some ways to incorporate the design:

1. Plant flowers and green walls in your office space.

2. Listen to different audio coming from nature

3. Incorporate water into your space by adding an aquarium

Being connected to Nature can really help us feel relaxed and alleviate some of the stress we all face. Here are some photos for inspiration, tell us in the comments what first steps you’ll decide to take!
