Like all residents of the city, the MHSA found out about the City of Medicine Hat decision to remove the ramps in East Glen via todays public announcement. Our understanding was that this was a pilot project. Which is the perfect opportunity to work through issues together with all involved.
The Association is disappointed at the decision and the lack of communication by the City of Medicine Hat. The MHSA was not involved in the site selection location. Nor in the decision to remove the ramps
There are so many children and teenagers who loved this park. As an Association, we encourage children to be active and get exercise. And there were many East Glen residents who shared that they were happy with the park in their area and how their kids were loving skateboarding and scootering there
The City of Medicine Hat has been in communication today and has committed to find another location quickly. We trust this will happen quickly and not end up having ramps sit in the Parks & Rec yard where they have been for over a year.
We are removing the portable skate ramps recently installed at the East Glen Rink, and temporarily pause the pilot project.
The decision to move the ramps was made based on resident feedback, which indicated that the ramps produced excessive noise levels when in use.
Pausing the pilot project provides staff with the opportunity to further enhance the all-around enjoyment of this exciting new outdoor recreational amenity for all residents.
We can't wait to find the right solution and get these ramps back out for all to enjoy!
