One change I made because of breast cancer?
I stopped putting myself last.
I see me now - listening to my body, protecting my peace and honouring my self-care goals without guilt.
📸 These photos tell a deeper story.
Holding Time Magazine’s 2006 cover titled “You” - not knowing then how clearly it would reflect me twenty years later (2006 → 2026). Now, I am using technology to create my own platform for the world to learn about my cancer journey as a Deaf person and to show how it is possible to support others in this space.
Unknown to me back then, my “Pretty in Pink” pose would become my colour, representing breast cancer awareness and hope.
Not for recognition but for purpose.
My role is multi-levelled - from a young, healthy high schooler, to a high school teacher, mother to a Deaf child (now a teenager!) and now a breast cancer advocate - shaped by my real-life experiences as a Deaf woman diagnosed with breast cancer.
Looking back, I want to empower young people not to take everything for granted, especially when they are in a different mindset or have different values. Life is precious and self care matters.
Today, I stand humbly as an advocate for breast cancer awareness in the Deaf Community - with honour, resilience and heart.
Now, it is about paying it forward - sharing knowledge, breaking barriers and saving lives for the future of humanity.
My daughter’s future generation matters - for good health and prevention - just like all the children in this world. Including yours.
Small changes. Big meaning.
Because I am worth it - and so is the next generation. 💗
✨ Self-care is NOT selfish - it is survival, it is leadership and it is the first step in creating a brighter future for everyone we love.
