September 30 | National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡

Draw a place where every child matters.

Today, we invite creative arts therapists, allied professionals, children, families, educators, and communities to imagine a place where every child feels safe, seen, heard, respected, cared for, and loved.

Can we continue the conversation beyond September 30th and encourage bold imagination?

Can we raise critical awareness and create space for all children?

Can we use art and other ways of knowing to create necessary change—to dismantle what divides and causes harm, and rebuild what brings us together?

Through art, we make space for reflection, learning, remembrance, and imagining what could be different.

Today, we honour the children who never returned home, Survivors of residential schools, their families, and their communities.

Every Child Matters. 🧡

Still struggling with school drop-offs? You’re not alone.

Difficult goodbyes are more common than we sometimes talk about. A child can love their school, feel safe with their teacher, and still have a really hard time saying goodbye.

And we know it can be hard on parents too.

The crying, holding on, refusing to go in, watching the clock, second-guessing yourself as you walk away, and then trying to carry on with the rest of your day. It can leave parents feeling worried, sad, guilty, frustrated, angry, exhausted, or wondering, “Am I doing this right?”

We get it. We work with parents who struggle with drop-offs, and we even have a therapist on our own team who knows this struggle personally. There is no judgment here.

At Art as Therapy, we can support your child in understanding what makes separation feel so difficult, while also making space for you and what you’re carrying as a parent.

We offer individual therapy, parenting support and consultations, art therapy for children, teens and adults, and family art therapy.

Sometimes supporting the child means supporting the people holding them, too.

We get so focused on what we do that sometimes we forget to take a minute, breathe, and simply say hello! đź‘‹đź’›

To our new followers and those who have been here with us for a while, hello from the Art as Therapy therapist team!

We wanted to pause and connect with you beyond the therapy room and share a little about ourselves, including what we love about being therapists, our favourite art materials, and the things that bring us joy.

We are here to support, create, connect, and provide care, both inside and outside the art therapy room.

We have an absolutely lovely fun loving, deeply kind and caring team, and we hope that shows in the work we do.

Now it’s your turn—tell us your favourite art material or favourite way to spend time outdoors!

WE’RE HIRING! Come join our team!

Art as Therapy is looking for an in-person Administrative Team Member and client care coordinator to join us in Orangeville!

We’re a super kind, caring, creative bunch who believe work can be meaningful and joyful.

We celebrate birthdays.
We celebrate big wins.
We celebrate little wins.
And yes, if you finally make it to the bottom of the laundry pile, we will probably celebrate that too.

We’re looking for someone who is organized, warm, dependable, loves people, and wants to work somewhere where kindness really matters.

If you want to be part of a fun, caring, kind and joyful workplace while helping us support our clients and community, we’d love to hear from you!

Back-to-school can bring big feelings for children, youth, and parents + educators too. At Art as Therapy we offer a supportive, creative space to help families navigate the transition.

5 ways art therapy may support back-to-school feelings:
• Express emotions that can be hard to put into words
• Discover and build coping and emotional regulation skills
• Reduce pressure through creative, sensory-based activities
• Support confidence during periods of change
• Help parents better understand and respond to what their child may be experiencing

Our team is available to support families and educators this week in Brampton, Milton, and Orangeville.

Vehra (ਵਿਹੜਾ) in Punjabi means more than simply “courtyard.”

Traditionally, the vehra is the open space at the heart of a Panjabj home, a place where children play, neighbours drop in, stories are shared, and everyday connection happens.
Because of that, vehra (ਵਿਹੜਾ) can symbolize belonging, connection, welcome, and community.

At Art as Therapy, we have seen something similar in our own space. People may come for art therapy, but often they stay for the connection. Our indoor waiting room has become a communal place to pause, talk, share stories, sip tea, create, and feel at ease.

This summer, we wanted to extend some of that feeling outdoors.

Vehra offers:
• A place where you can come as you are
• A place for gathering, not performing
• Creativity, conversation, and play
• Hospitality and care
• A sense that everyone has a place

We hope you’ll join us this Tuesday for Art Hive in the courtyard,  a space to gather, create, connect, and simply be together

Meet Jocelyn Ho, our newest team member at Art as Therapy!

We’re excited to welcome Jocelyn to our Brampton office, where she is now welcoming new clients with flexible, sliding-scale rates to help make therapy more accessible.

Jocelyn is a Trainee Art Psychotherapist, CIAT (Candidate), currently completing her practicum and Art Therapy training through the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy while working toward becoming a Registered Psychotherapist.

She offers a warm, non-judgmental space where children, youth and adults can explore their experiences through both words and creativity. Using art-making such as drawing, painting and clay, Jocelyn supports clients in processing emotions, noticing patterns and building resilience through a person-centred, trauma-informed approach.

Areas of focus include:
Anxiety • Depression • Burnout • Emotional Regulation • Grief • Life Transitions • Trauma & PTSD

In-person in Brampton + Online
Ages 8–80
Flexible sliding-scale rates

No art experience needed — the focus is on the process, not the finished product.

And a little more about Jocelyn outside the therapy room: she loves reading psychological thrillers, hanging out with her dog, and watching reality TV! Her favourite art material is watercolour because of its flow and the way colours easily blend together.

Interested in seeing if Jocelyn might be a good fit for you or your child? Book a complimentary consultation call today.
