It’s not just the walls that make a home, it’s the people and the love within those walls.”

As much as respite is so needed for our families to rest and recharge, it’s critical to the children we serve. DHK allows our kiddos to experience the joys of childhood (whether being dressed as a mummy, or enjoying a bonfire with friends) in a safe, home-away-from-home environment. Every day, our home is filled with joyful “just-be-a-kid” moments like the one Josh experienced.💙💛💚

Our Care Team always makes sure that our kiddos experience many of the wonderful “just-be-a-kid” moments that make childhood so special.

From pumpkin crafts, getting snuggled up by the fire, spooky face painting, and “bobbing” for apples—we’ve been taking in all the joyful moments that autumn brings.

Look at her go! Everleigh is a standing girl! 🌟

The road here wasn’t easy, requiring a lot of determination and strength. It took:

🩺 22 appointments
🩹 16 casts
🏥 1 surgery & hospital stay
⏱️ 165 hours of time and hard work

Seeing Everleigh stand tall in her new stander is a reminder of just how amazing and resilient our kiddos truly are.

It should come as no surprise that caring for a child with complex medical needs is a 24/7 job. That’s why respite care is so critical to the parents we serve. It gives them time to recharge while their kiddos enjoy a fun, safe home away from home! 🏠✨

A huge congratulations to Team Four Etta, who participated in their very first Rally this past weekend (dressed as candles to celebrate Etta’s fourth birthday!🎂) and officially took home the title of Top Fundraising Team! 🤩

Etta always brings a smile to our faces when she stays at DHK for respite—it’s no wonder her team was full of smiles too! Together, Team Four Etta raised an incredible $8,876.53 to support the programs and care that mean so much to families like theirs. 💚💛💙

We’re so grateful for their heart, dedication, and amazing team spirit!
