Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day and in addition to celebrating Indigenous cultures, histories and identities, we also want to share our commitments to reconciliation.

At CarePoint Health, we acknowledge the lasting impacts of residential schools, colonial policies, and systemic inequities on the health and well-being of Indigenous peoples.

As part of our commitment to advancing equitable and inclusive healthcare, we are sharing our Reconciliation Commitments. These were developed in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC) health-related Calls to Action by our organizational TRC working group and are endorsed by the CarePoint Health Board of Directors and senior leadership team.

These commitments and actions reflect our dedication to reconciliation and to providing healthcare that is culturally safe and responsive to the needs of First Nations, Inuit, Métis, and urban Indigenous peoples.

Our commitments focus on:

• Closing the gaps in health outcomes
• Addressing the distinct healthcare needs of local Indigenous peoples
• Integrating Indigenous and Western approaches to healing and wellness
• Creating an inclusive and supportive workplace for Indigenous staff

On June 21, we will be celebrating the diverse and vibrant cultures, identities, and traditions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples across Canada.

National Indigenous Peoples Day is also an opportunity to learn about Indigenous histories and experiences. At CarePoint Health, we commemorated the day with strawberry juice and a drop in session with Karry Anne, Indigenous Lead to understand more about Indigenous experiences and our organizational commitments to truth and reconciliation. Watch this space to learn more about these commitments and our action plan.
