Critical illness
insurance, types, benefits, questions..Welcome to Part 3 of our insurance series.
Today we're talking about Critical Illness Insurance.
Most people have heard of critical illness insurance, but many people don't know there are different types of plans.
Let's start with the most common type.
Lump Sum Critical Illness Insurance.
If you're diagnosed with a covered critical illness and meet the policy conditions, you receive a one-time tax-free payment.
You can use the money however you want.
Pay your mortgage, cover household bills, take time off work, seek treatment, or simply focus on recovery.
The second type is Monthly Benefit Critical Illness Insurance.
Instead of receiving one large payment, you receive monthly payments for a specified period.
Some people prefer this because it provides ongoing financial support.
The next thing to understand is the number of illnesses covered.
Some basic plans only cover major conditions such as cancer, heart attack, and stroke.
Other plans may cover 10 illnesses, 25 illnesses, or even more depending on the insurer.
Another feature you may see is Return of Premium.
Some plans offer the option to return part or all of your premiums if certain conditions are met.
This feature usually increases the cost of the policy, so it's important to understand the trade-offs.
There are also Critical Illness plans available for children.
These plans can help families manage unexpected expenses if a child is diagnosed with a covered illness.
Before buying Critical Illness Insurance, ask yourself three questions.
How much money would my family need if I became seriously ill?
Would I prefer one large payment or monthly payments?
And how many illnesses do I want covered?
Critical Illness Insurance is not about replacing income forever.
It's about giving your family financial flexibility during one of the most difficult times in life.
