Flat or convex? 🤔 Let’s talk about ostomy skin barriers (flanges)!
Choosing the right skin barrier can make all the difference when it comes to achieving a good seal and protecting the skin around your ostomy. 💙
🔹 Flat skin barrier
A good option when the ostomy protrudes sufficiently above the skin and the area around the ostomy is relatively flat.
🔹 Convex skin barrier
Designed to provide tension around the ostomy to help encourage the ostomy to protrude and direct stool or urine into the pouch. It can be particularly helpful when the ostomy is flush with the skin, retracted, or located in a skin fold or dip.
✨ Every ostomy and every abdomen is unique. The skin barrier should therefore be selected based on your anatomy, your ostomy and your individual needs.
Not sure which type of skin barrier is right for you? A nurse specialized in ostomy (NSWOC) can help assess your situation and find a solution that works for you. 💙
