As life-changing as my own healing journey was, the true turning point came through watching my mother struggle with her health.
My mom had dealt with symptoms connected to Candida overgrowth for most of her life, though she never fully understood what was causing them.
As a young married woman, she suffered from chronic yeast infections. Over the years, more symptoms piled on: thyroid issues, constipation, IBS, fatigue, brain fog, low energy, digestive struggles, and frequent illness.
Like so many women, she spent years searching for relief.
She bought books about healthy eating. She tried learning about nutrition. She wanted to feel better.
But she struggled to make lasting changes on her own.
At one point, I even helped her book an appointment with a naturopathic doctor who confirmed that she also had Candida overgrowth. But without support, accountability, or community, she felt overwhelmed. Sugar addiction had a strong hold on her, and trying to heal alone felt impossible.
So nothing changed.
Years later, my mother was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer.
That moment deeply impacted me.
As we searched for alternative ways to support her body, I came across the Gerson Institute, where people were using nutrition, juicing, and plant-based healing protocols to support recovery and restore health naturally. Seeing the impact food could have on the human body opened my eyes in an even deeper way.
I saw God's design in the body's capacity to heal, and I knew that design was meant to be stewarded, not surrendered.
It made me realize something I will never forget:
The body was designed to heal when given the right support.
And many women are never taught that.
I truly believe that if my mother's gut health struggles and Candida overgrowth had been addressed years earlier, her story may have looked very different.
It was hard for my mom to change her diet and lifestyle. What's hard for you?
