Kayla Larsen Physiotherapy

Kayla Larsen Physiotherapy Physio that treats the whole you — not just the sore spot! Kayla Larsen Physiotherapy is in Nanaimo, BC. Come as you are. You don't need to be injured to book.

Unrushed 50-min sessions, one price ($185), and no referral needed to book. Kayla Larsen Physiotherapy offers whole-person physiotherapy in Nanaimo, BC, practicing out of Multidimensional Health at 755 Franklyn St. The approach is built on a simple idea: pain and healing aren't only about muscles and joints. Care looks at the body, the nervous system, and daily life together — how stress and tensi

on affect pain, and how habits and goals shape recovery — rather than treating a sore spot in isolation. Many clients come in proactively, to stay ahead of pain, ease everyday tension, or keep moving well before small issues grow into bigger ones. Every session is a full, unrushed 50 minutes. Kayla starts by listening, taking real time to understand the full story before assessing and treating the same day. Whatever the body needs on a given day is available within the session at no extra cost — hands-on manual therapy, myofascial release, acupuncture, dry needling, movement and strength coaching, or breathing and nervous-system calming techniques — all at one price, with no fixed checklist and no separate booking. Sessions are $185, regardless of which methods are used. No doctor's referral is required to book physiotherapy in BC. Many extended health plans cover physiotherapy, and receipts are provided for reimbursement. Kayla Larsen Physiotherapy is currently accepting new clients and serves people from Nanaimo, Lantzville, Nanoose Bay, Parksville, Cedar, and Ladysmith. Free parking is available off the alley at the clinic.

You don't have to be injured to book — here's who comes in anyway.

Desk workers whose hips and shoulders are paying for 8 hours a day in a chair. New parents whose bodies haven't caught up to lifting a toddler all day. Weekend athletes trying to stay ahead of the injuries that come with going hard twice a week. None of them were "injured" when they booked — they just wanted to stay ahead of it.

Can stress really make your pain worse? Here's the mechanism.

When your nervous system stays in high alert, muscles hold more baseline tension — so the same injury can feel more intense on a stressful week than a calm one.

One simple starting point: slow exhales (longer than your inhale) signal safety to your nervous system and can ease that baseline tension within minutes.

It's not a fix on its own, but it's a real, free tool you can use today.

Why does pain sometimes outlast the injury that caused it?

Tissue often heals faster than pain resolves. When pain sticks around for months, your nervous system can become more sensitive over time — a real, well-documented process, not a sign that "it's all in your head" or that nothing's wrong.

Understanding that shift is often the first step in actually calming it down.

With four different techniques on hand, how does Kayla decide which one you need?

It comes down to what she finds in your assessment that day:

Guarded, tense muscles often respond well to hands-on work or myofascial release.

A stubborn, specific knot is often a dry-needling candidate.

Broader pain or tension patterns sometimes call for acupuncture.

Nothing is applied by default — every tool has to earn its place in your session.

Tight and restricted, but not really "in pain"? This one's for you.

Myofascial release is slow, sustained hands-on pressure on the connective tissue (fascia) surrounding your muscles — not a deep-tissue massage.

It's often used for tightness that's settled in over weeks or months, where stretching alone hasn't shifted anything.

Acupuncture and dry needling look almost identical. Here's the actual difference.

Both use thin, single-use needles, and both can ease pain and tension.

Acupuncture draws on traditional Chinese medicine and works with specific points across the body.

Dry needling is a Western, muscle-focused technique that targets tight trigger points directly.

Kayla's trained in both, and picks whichever fits what's actually going on with you.

What does "hands-on treatment" actually involve?

Joint mobilization, soft tissue work, manual stretching — techniques aimed at reducing stiffness, improving range of motion, and calming an overactive nervous system.

It's not a relaxation massage; it's targeted, and what Kayla does changes based on what your body's telling her that session.

Wondering what actually happens at your first physio visit?

No need to prep anything special — just wear something you can move in. Kayla starts by listening: what's going on, how it started, what makes it better or worse. You're treated that same day, not just assessed. You leave with 2–3 concrete things to work on, not a vague "stretch more."

Every visit is built around real listening, hands-on treatment, and a plan that fits your life. Here's what that means for you:

You get a full, unrushed 50 minutes of focused care at every visit.

She takes the time to really listen and understand your whole story.

You get hands-on treatment, not just a list of homework.

She explains your body in plain words, so you feel in control.

You leave with simple, doable steps for real progress.

Why does a physio ask about your sleep and stress?

Because pain doesn't happen in a vacuum. Poor sleep turns up your body's pain sensitivity. A stressful stretch keeps muscles braced and guarded. A desk-heavy week changes how your hips and shoulders move by the weekend.

Kayla maps all of it in your first assessment — so the plan fits your actual life, not just the spot that hurts.
