Often called the “sunshine vitamin,” vitamin D also has a reputation as a feel-good nutrient because of its connection with overall wellbeing.
But it does a lot more than that.
Vitamin D plays an important role in muscle function, immune health, nervous system function and bone health.
During the winter months, less sun exposure can make maintaining healthy vitamin D levels especially important.
Vitamin D also works closely with magnesium and vitamin K. Magnesium is involved in the enzymes that help activate and metabolize vitamin D, while vitamin K helps regulate how calcium is used in the body and supports normal bone mineralization. Together, these nutrients help support the systems vitamin D is involved in rather than working in isolation.
Always check with your pharmacist or healthcare provider before starting a new supplement.
