Is your Cedarwood actually a cedar?

Not always. Atlas Cedarwood (Cedrus atlantica) is a true cedar, while Virginia Cedarwood (Juniperus virginiana) is actually a juniper.

Their chemistry differs too. Atlas Cedarwood is used in aromatherapy as a calmative, while Virginia Cedarwood has been studied for insect-deterrent activity.

Geranium doesn’t have to stay in the diffuser. 🌿

Pelargonium graveolens has a long-standing place in natural skincare and cosmetic formulation, including facial oils and creams when properly diluted.

For a simple at-home facial oil, add 1 drop of Geranium essential oil to 10 ml of jojoba oil and mix thoroughly. Apply a small amount to the face as you would a facial oil.

Why is it called cold cream if you make it warm?

The “cold” refers to the cooling sensation it leaves on the skin as some of the water in the cream evaporates.

Here’s a small version based on the traditional Galenic cold cream:

• 30 ml sweet almond oil
• 3.75 g beeswax
• 12.5 ml rose water
• 1–2 drops Geranium essential oil

Melt the beeswax into the almond oil over gentle heat. Warm the rose water separately, then add it to the oil and beeswax mixture little by little, whisking continuously.

Finally, stir in the Geranium essential oil, transfer the cream to a clean container, and let it set.

A simple recipe built around one of skincare’s oldest ideas: oil, beeswax and water brought together into a rich cream.

Your essential oil may be aging faster when the bottle is almost empty. Here’s why.

As the oil level drops, air takes up a larger proportion of the space inside the bottle. That means more oxygen is available to react with the oil’s components, which can contribute to faster oxidation. Heat and light can accelerate this process too.

So when there’s only a little oil left, don’t become less careful with the bottle. Keep it tightly closed and store it away from heat and direct light. Good storage still matters—right down to the last few drops.
