Sucked it up and handpoked my palm today! The killdeer is a bird (a type of plover I’ve been told) that I bumped into a while back while still working corporate life. I instantly fell in love with this mama and her innate “whatever it takes” attitude. They lay their eggs some of the worst places, and if you stumble too closely, they will pop out front and centre, and fake a broken wing…dramatically throwing themselves in the face of danger - seemingly an easy target - to make you quickly forget about the babes back in the nest. Once mama’s got your attention, and you’ve been safely lured away from the nest, she’s runs off like a shot and you’re left confused (or impressed, as I was) by having been duped. An ode to a bad bitch (and to my three little egg heads).
