How quickly do you find you process and move through information that shakes your world?
Whether it’s a loss of some sort, an unexpected upset where there has always been security, or the devastating diagnosis of a family member.
Logically, we all know humans are designed to respond to shock with either fight, flight, or freeze. You can even add fawn or feed to that list. We can feel it in our bodies, along with that helplessness and feeling of losing control.
When you understand how your mind works and how to use language and visualizations to ground you, our minds simply processed things much faster.
It took me practice and repetition, of course, but with shocking information I received this week, I was surprised at how much easier I was able to deal with it since I’ve been training my mind. It had learned, and I was pleasantly surprised to see how it was not jumping to worst case scenarios yet observing realistically.
Even AI when it hurt, my situation was saying things like, that’s a horrible amount of weight to carry, or, that’s a huge blow to your nervous system. Well, thanks very much, but I would rather you didn’t escalate how my mind has learned to deal with these situations.
I tell my clients, while many of us know the number one job of the mind is to help us cope and survive in this world, the number one rule of the mind, is it will always respond to how it’s directed as long as it doesn’t cause friction with subconscious core beliefs.
When crisis strikes, your mind will look for instructions. If you don’t give it grounded ones, it will borrow from panic from anywhere else… from the threat of loss, an unrealistic story of fear, the news, or an old outdated pattern rooted in a negative belief.
This is how I equip my clients to master their internal dialogue at a much deeper level. Long before the storm hits.
Rewriting and elevating your core beliefs and identity, doesn’t change bad things from happening, but it does change who you are when you walk through them.
You don’t have to control the situation to stay in control of yourself.
It’s a trainable skill.
