Hantavirus in Saskatchewan – Protect Your Health

Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) is rare but serious, and it’s spread mainly through deer mice and their droppings. Cases in Saskatchewan are uncommon, but prevention is essential.

Reduce your risk:

Avoid disturbing rodent nests or droppings

Seal holes and gaps in buildings

Ventilate enclosed spaces before cleaning

Wear gloves and an N95 respirator when cleaning rodent‑affected areas

Wet down droppings before wiping to avoid stirring dust

If you develop flu‑like symptoms after possible exposure, seek medical care right away.

Ticks in Saskatchewan – What You Need to Know

Ticks are active from spring through fall, especially in tall grass, shrubs, and wooded areas. Most ticks in Saskatchewan are harmless, but it’s still important to protect yourself and your family.

Stay safe outdoors:

Use repellent with DEET or Icaridin

Wear long, light‑coloured clothing

Do a full tick check after being outside

Remove ticks with fine‑tipped tweezers

Watch for symptoms like rash, fever, or fatigue

The risk of Lyme disease in Saskatchewan remains very low, but awareness keeps our communities safer.

Water Safety in Saskatchewan
Summer is coming, and our lakes, rivers, and streams are already getting busy. Whether you’re boating, swimming, fishing, or just relaxing by the water, safety has to come first.

Key reminders:

Wear a properly fitted life jacket

Watch for changing weather and water conditions

Keep children within arm’s reach

Stay hydrated and protect your skin

Swim only in designated areas

Safe choices today mean a lifetime of memories tomorrow.
Enjoy the water — and respect it.

National Immunization Awareness Week
2026 Theme: The Time is Now! Get Immunized

Vaccines have changed the story of public health. Diseases that once caused thousands of illnesses every year — like measles, polio, and whooping cough — have dropped dramatically because of routine immunization.

The evidence is clear: vaccines are safe, they work, and they save lives.
Keeping up to date with your immunizations protects you, your family, and your community.

Talk to your Community Health Nurse to make sure your vaccines are current.
