I was giving a presentation today and had to remind the audience that know it’s not just “diet, exercise (and willpower)” so I thought I would do a refresher on the complex factors that affect weight….

I often get ask “how do genes contribute to weight?”Genes can affect appetite, feelings of fullness, metabolism, food cravings, storage of fat and even the tendency to use eating as a way to cope with stress.

Our environment also plays a KEY role. If our neighbourhood is unsafe, there are no supermarkets with affordable food, and we need to work 2 jobs to pay our bills that is going to make a big difference.

These are just SOME of the factors that affect weight but there are many more. Many of these factors are outside our control.

Here are my Monday thoughts ❤️ which one resonates with you the most? 1, 2, 3, 4?

Let’s spend this week being a bit kinder and more compassionate towards our own bodies and others 💕

1825 meals and snacks per year.

That’s how many meals and snacks we need to make for each of our kids if they’re eating three meals and two snack snacks per day.

That’s a lot. That’s exhausting.

So guess what? Here is your permission slip to make life easier on yourself. You’re allowed to take shortcuts. You’re allowed to give yourself a break. Every meal doesn’t have to be perfect.

I feed my kids chicken nuggets and you can too ❤️

We worry. We stress. We agonize.

🍦Is my kid addicted to sugar?
👨‍👧Will they get fat as they get older?
🍩Will they have the struggles that I did?
🤰Will my body ever “bounce back”?
🏃‍♀️Will it ever look like I want it to?

What if you knew your child was born an intuitive eater and has the innate sense on how much they need to grow and thrive. That they have a genetic body blueprint and parents have very little influence on their child’s weight or shape? What if you knew that YOUR body was destined to change shape and size throughout your years. That this is a normal part of aging.

Which one have you been taught to worry about most? 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5

And yes I feed my kids Kraft Dinner

Cheers to parents everywhere helping their kids have a healthier relationship with food than they did growing up and breaking the intergenerational trauma of food rules ❤️

This message needs to be spread far and wide!!

When my daughter was selling cookies for we were constantly inundated with messages like this which we later had to try and unpack and untangle. She was 6. These are confusing and unnecessary.

Let’s just let them sell cookies 🍪

Thank you to for saying what we all have been thinking

As we enter in to a season where we’re all wearing a little less clothing ☀️

Just a little reminder…..what you eat, how you move, your weight (loss or gain), your shape and size, your health and your lifestyle are YOURS and do not need to be justified or debated!

A friendly reminder for all of those are “just trying to help” to keep your comments to yourself! These are NACHO business!

And feel free to ↗️SHARE in your STORIES to (passive aggressively) spread the word!

The 90s and early 2000’s were an incredibly difficult time for many of us and our body image. Especially if you were an impressionable teen/young adult during this time.

We were sold a narrative that we needed to fix our bodies “problem areas” and that we were 100% in control of what our body looked like. We can see now how absolutely false this is and how there is over a 100 factors that actually influence our weight and shape (most of these outside our control).

Our “problem areas” were actually just normal human body parts and the beautiful diversity they come in.

Our bodies were never the problem. The problem is the unrealistic beauty ideals placed on women (and people of all genders).

So next time you feel unworthy in your body, consider the question WHO PROFITS OFF THAT THOUGHT?

Body dissatisfaction is big business.

Did you ever feel any of these parts of you was “wrong”? What did you do to try to fix it? What other normal body parts were villainized during this time? Comment below 👇

One of the biggest battles we have is knowing what to advocate for when it comes to our health!

So here is a little cheat sheet of the most common blood test I request my clients get done with their family doctor!

Also, review your results carefully. If you are at the bottom range of “normal” for iron levels (for example) that means you need some extra support in that area to feel your best!

You’re doing enough, I already know that about you. Our generation was taught that our worth was based on productivity.

This is the essence of hustle culture.

Prioritizing ‘doing more’ over mental health, sleep, and rest which has deep roots in capitalism.

I absolutely love this by in resin.
