The heart of our community is centred around səlilwət (Burrard Inlet), between Maplewood Flats and Deep Cove in North Vancouver, but traditional use studies and archaeological evidence show our Ancestors occupied a vast area, about 1,865 square kilometres (190,000 hectares). Our traditional territory encompasses wilderness watersheds northwards to Mount Garibaldi, Coquitlam Lake in the east, and Howe Sound to the west.

MST Welcome Video for FIFA World Cup 2026™ Vancouver by Indigenous Tourism BC

xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) welcome the world to our shared territories during FIFA World Cup 2026™ Vancouver in this uplifting welcome video produced by Indigenous Tourism BC (ITBC).

Chief Justin George, Robert George, Robbie George, Jasmin Thomas, Mabel Humchitt, soccer parents, coaches, and youth players took part in the creation of this video, which was shot in community to show our love of the beautiful game.

We wish to acknowledge Indigenous Tourism BC (ITBC) for partnering with Tsleil-Waututh Nation on bringing this video to life.

The MST welcome video will be prominently shared throughout FIFA World Cup 2026™ Vancouver, including at Tsleil-Waututh Nation's FIFA Fan Festival activation site.

George, who played a key part in creating the unique Sonic ID for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ in Vancouver. Producer and DJ Grayson Repp collaborated with səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nation artists to Indigenize the theme song. We are səlilwətaɬ, Tsleil-Waututh Nation - “People of the Inlet.” Many generations of Tsleil-Waututh people have lived and thrived along Burrard Inlet, due in no small part to the abundance of food, forests, and water. May 5th is Red Dress Day, also known as the Day of Honouring Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+). This day honours the precious lives lost and acknowledges the need to work toward justice, equality, and a safer future.

Eighty-one affordable homes are open for Indigenous Elders, individuals, families in East Van. The building has been named Chief Leonard George, of the səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) to honour the legacy of the late Chief’s advocacy and lasting impact.

“I am thrilled that this new essential housing complex for Indigenous Elders, families and other members of the community is named in honour of my father, Chief Leonard George,” said Chief Justin George, səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation). “My father was a visionary leader of our Nation. He viewed housing not just as shelter, but as a place of healing, strength, and connection. He also believed housing should reflect Indigenous identity, a belief that is honoured in the new Chief Leonard George building, which was designed to resemble a Coast Salish woven basket and to prioritize intergenerational living.”

We're Celebrating səlilwətaɬ Resilience During Earth Week!

Today, April 22, is Earth Day, and this year's theme is Our Power, Our Planet. səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) is celebrating with a week of events highlighting səlilwətaɬ initiatives, including food sovereignty, reducing greenhouse gases, and building community preparedness and resiliency to climate change. These actions respect TWN Indigenous knowledge, stewardship obligations, community strengths, and values. We are dedicated to rebuilding our environment so future generations can thrive, guided by the teachings of our Ancestors.
